Author’s notes: Descriptions of San Souci come from Wikipedia as well as my own memories of a show about the place, so any inaccuracies are my own. There is much speculation surrounding Frederick II’s sexuality as life at San Souci was rife with homoerotic banter. Many of his guests were known to be openly gay and it was no secret at the time that Frederick had very little to do with his wife, or women in general, except for his sister, Wilhelmine. Also when he was younger, he ran off with his best friend, Hans Herman von Katte to get away from his abusive father, Frederick William I, when they were found and hauled back home, Frederick was force to watch the execution of his friend, which he took very hard. Also his father considered him to be effeminate from an early age so it seems likely he was gay, not there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, it gives credence to the idea that he probably would have slept with a certain albino Country-tan…
