Today I went to the parrot show, saw some cute parrots & got my cockatiel Gilbee some toys & a packet of Avicakes to try. I think my parakeet Ban (aka Chicken Nuggets) will end up liking them more since they're like his seed sticks.I wanted to get Ban a swing for his cage, but couldn't find one. He didn'ty get any toys, since he only plays with his "balls" (several plastic cage-like balls that are strung together). They other toys in his cage (rings, a preening toy, a bead toy with a bell & a chewy toy) he just ignores. XD Gilbee got some little woven balls, a preening toy that looks like a simplistic octopus, & another rainbow toy (wooden beads with lil wooden diamond shaped disks between the beads) for when he chews it up. I got a "beware of attack cockatiel" sign. If they had a parakeet one, I'd have gotten that too. XD I also got a couple of free wooden perches when we walked in. They're more parrot sized, but I'm sure I can find a use for them. :D We also visited "Parrots of the World," the shop where I got Ban. While I'll have had him for 10 years in February, counting backwards, he'll be 10 next month, which is old for a parakeet. :D This is a parakeet who refused to eat anything unless it was seeds. XD Even Gilbee is picky, although, he'll eat a bit of pretzel & popcorn rice cakes. XD (My previous cockatiel, Mel, loved apples & broccoli. :D)

Was awesome!! I had sooo much fun! We met up with friends and wandered around all the different vendors! I had a canoli, made a donation to the Saint, had a bowl of pasta & gelato on stick & later on in a bowl! I also got treated to some amazing rice pudding at a place that has tons of different flavors! My friend Julia got me a lil carved stone frog. He now sits with all my other frogs under the plants in the living room. :D The only celeb I saw was this guy call Cousin Brucie. I think he djs an oldies channel on Sirius radio. XD I still can't believe I left the house at 1 and got home at 9! It was that much fun!! :D

Today I went to the City on a photo-trip to see the Oculous at the site of the old World Trade Center & we also visited the reflecting pools. The Oculus is really cool, it has boutique-y shops inside & places to eat, plus they had an exhibit about the Sistine Chapel. The reflecting pools outside made me sad. It had the names of the peeps who died there on it. T.T

Then we went & took the Path train to Jersey & took pix there. We also ate at a beirgarten there! It was fun!! I got a brat & had some beer. :D Then back to the pier for more pix of the City skyline. I fed the poor pigeons. XD They need love too. It was cute how they all lined up for me to toss bits of my bagel at them. XD

After that we came back & walked to Battery Park to see the fish carousel!! I finally got to ride it!! It was sooo much fun!! :D I have a ticket for another ride (it's good until Dec 31 of next year). :D It's smaller than I thought it'd be, but it was still fun! I sat in a fish & spun around went up & down. You're supposed to feel like a fish in a bowl. XD It's really pretty how the fish change colors. :D

Despite getting up at 4 in the morning to drive down to Maryland, where I spent the morning & afternoon watching bald eagles fishing in a small lake/river, I was able to write when I got home. I managed to get a whole fic done. YAY!! That fic was 724 words. Not as long as my previous one, but still good. :D I hope COM had a productive day writing too!

I'm off to go to the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island! It's going to be sooo much fun! :D It's the largest art parade anywhere! People dress up, make floats, & march in it! Last year they had a drum band of bearded pirate ladies that was awesome!! I hope they're back this year!! :D I dressed up as a mermaid, even though I'm not marching (feet issues). XD Someone that marched by came over & liked my fish scale leggings. :D

REPORT:

I dressed up like a mermaid & had a great time, wandering around & checking out the sights. :D People are sooo creative! There was a group of mostly women, one guy was with them, that did an Alice in wonderland theme to their mermaid costumes. :D There was a Cannabis King who walked around with "Miss Sea Weed." *SNORTS* Drum bands, Mardi Gras style bands, various floats. There was a woman with her pet chicken & the chicken had a mermaid tail, cuz she was "Chicken of the Sea." :D Lots of literal sea dogs & sailors and naked boobies & gay pride & cross-dressing too! Seriously, I think a good time was had by ALL! :D

The weather was awesome! And we stood on the boardwalk where the people marching/bands/small floats all ended up & they have these "palm trees" that spray water into the air & the sea breeze blew it over, so it was like being misted. :D And I ate my first Coney Island hot dog from Nathan's! :D YUMMY! :D

Coming & going we took the train/subway, so it was easy getting there & going home. No TRAFFIC!! :D I'm definitely going next year & I might even march in the parade. XD

I had a great time at Sakura Matsuri! We spent nearly the whole day there, arriving around 11 & leaving at 6 when the park closed. Afterwards we went to an upscale pizzeria. :D Basically all we did was wander around & take pix of cosplayers, flowers, & people in general. But the weather was beautiful, and with the threat of cold rain tomorrow, it seems like EVERYONE was there. XD The cherry blossoms were beautiful! Unfortunately with the sea of humanity, it was hard to really enjoy them, but oh well. :D I got to see most of the Japanese garden which is my favorite part of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Just way too many peeps to really see all of it. Since I've seen it before & got a tour last year, I'm not that upset. :D

As for my kimono, I got a lot of compliments on it. Peeps asked where I got it. Being a big girl, it's hard for find any that will fit. XD These two women wanted to know if I would make them one & for how much. I was like "I dunno... but the fabric alone was $100." ;p Needless to say they didn't want me to amke them one. I got my pic taken a few times & 4 really stand out. XD While waiting for my friend to come out of the port-a-potty, I kinda "flopped" down on a large rock & sighed. An Asian woman saw me & heard me, laughed with me, & then asked if she could take my pic. (I was in charge of the camera, which was awkward, cuz I didn't want to put the camera on the ground)I'm like okay & then she wanted a pic with me. XD At another potty break (I barely drank anything to avoid using it dressed the way I was, never mind the long lines) I was waiting outside when this cute older Asian woman comes over to me & asks for a pic with me. In limited English, she told me she was a tourist from France! and she had seen an ad for the Fest in a supermarket & decided to come. :D Then there was the cute Asian woman, whose yukata I complimented & she also liked mine & decided she needed a pic with me too. XD Finally, this weird couple came over as I was finishing my lemonade (At this point, I was thirsty & needed something) & wanted a selfie with me. XD So I took a selfie with them. XD

Then everyone was told to leave as the garden was closed, so this sea of humanity kinda flowed to the nearest exit. We went out to dinner at Baccino's (sp?) & I had a personal marinara pizza, which was good. By then I was tired of standing & I'm surprised I'm not still sitting there. XD So you have an idea why I was sooo tired, with a few sitting breaks here & there, I spent most of the day on my feet. When I wasn't just standing around, or sitting, I walked about 6 1/2 miles. The garden is biggish, but we also looped around it several times. XD And I did all this wearing flip flop sandals. XD

I nearly forgot... We ate lunch there & I tried onigiri. :D I wanted one with chicken in it, but they only had plum, so I got that as I don't really like sushi & I didn't want ice cold ramen. (Had that last year & it was meh) It was really good! It was covered with seaweed, which gave it a slightly salty/fishy taste & in the middle was plum jelly which was surprisingly sweet! So it was a good mix of flavors! :D

And as soon as I can, I'll post a pic of me. XD

Kimono

This weekend, I;m going to the Matsuri Festival in the Brooklyn Botanic gardens.I'm making a kimono to wear. I've already made my under kimono. I used a white king-sized sheet & am old white pillowcase (cuz I need a scooch more fabric on a fold that I didn't have cuz I laid things out badly XD). I bought 8 yards or what was on the bolt & I have about 2 yards (?) left of Asian inspired cotton that feels silky. Everything except the neck over band is cut out & I just need to se3w it together. Then I need to cut out my obi. I have 3 yards each of 2 different cotton fabrics to make it. One's an aqua & white geometric, the other is a purple "tie-dye" with white butterflies on it. Why those colors? They are found on my kimono fabric. I'm lazy & I'm NOT matching patterns on the kimono. XD For a pattern I'm using a combination of Folkwear's kimono pattern (http://www.folkwear.com/113.html) & Simplicity's kimono pattern (http://www.simplicity.com/misses-costumes/4080.html#sz=30&start=113). This required a bit of fussing, since Simplicity's pattern's run small. XD Also, The Simplicity pattern really isn't a kimono. There's a should seam, there's not overlap panel, it's held together with snaps?! & While it has a "cheat" obi, obi DOES NOT have boning in it! ^^; So why didn't I just use my Folkwear pattern? It's even smaller than Simplicity's. XD I did use it to make my Rin-chan (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/vi/f/fd/Rin.PNG) but it never fit right in the chest & now my hips are too wide to make it work right. XD Much easier to make a new one. :D Pix will come when I'm all done & will be taken at the festival. :D

*is home*

This afternoon I went to Brooklyn's DUMBO area & got to ride Jame's Carousel! It was awesoem! :D

For a look at what it was like, have a look at the video I found on Youtube below:

I also got 2 beautiful tickets that I plan on framing. So if you're ever in the area, please take a ride! :D

Quoted from the person who posted the video:

"Published on Jun 2, 2012

We are in Brooklyn Bridge Park, where we see the beautifully restored Jane's Carousel in action. This carousel has a long history and was originally built in 1922 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, and was originally located in Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio. This carousel has had a storied life. From Youngstown, the carousel went into private ownership with the Walentas family. The Walentas family has since donated the carousel to the people who run this park, and it sits here today as a testament to restored classics everywhere. Enjoy the sound of the original pipe organ and drums (which are actually connected to a MiDi file player), as well as the horses and all the paintings, all of which have been meticulously restored. It take two bucks to pony up on this not-for-profit ride. It is well worth the money to take a ride back in time. Come see Jane's Carousel in the park. Enter from Dock Street or Main Street. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on May 30th, 2012."

I hope to go back again to ride it! :D

I LOVE carousels & like to ride them whenever I get the chance! :D
