Title: Ghost Stories
Characters: Japan mention of America
Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: G
Summary: Japan realizes America was right about the book of ghost stories he gave him…

Japan closed the book he was reading. It was a book of spooky tales from around the world that America had found for him. It turned out to be not as scary as his friend insisted it was, not that he minded. He had just finished reading Germany’s version of the headless horseman and he loved the similarities the story had to the movie version of Washington Irving’s tale they had watched the other night. Japan smiled as he recalled his friend’s reaction to the movie, claiming it was even more terrifying to actually see the pumpkin-headed ghost as he rode through the sleepy little upstate village than imagining it.

Setting the book aside, Japan got up to make a cup of tea. As he walked past, Pochi looked up from the bone he was chewing on, and dropping it, he scrambled after his master. He dogged Japan’s heels as he puttered around the kitchen. Sighing softly, he said, “Here,” as he gave the dog a couple of treats. Pochi happily wolfed them down, before leaving the kitchen. Japan watched him go. Picking up his teacup, he decided to go sit outside and gaze at the moon while he drank it.

Japan opened the back door and stepped outside. It was cool, crisp autumn night, the kind that could set a chill to one’s bones, if they weren’t dressed properly. The moon hung big and full in the night sky, just like it did in some of the stories in the book. All it needed was a thick fog to roll in and it would be just like that one story… Finishing his tea, Japan decided things were just too much like those ghost stories for his tastes and went inside. America-san was right, those stories are scary…

Title: Scaring Sealand
Characters: Sealand, Sweden, Hana-Tomago, Norway, mention of Finland
Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: G
Summary: Sweden, with a bit of help from Norway and his troll, scare the willies out of Sealand…
Author’s note: Head-canon says Sweden has a wicked sense of humor ;p

Sealand looked up at Sweden, his eyes round with terror. The spooky smile Sweden gave him had him quaking in his boots so much, he was sure the larger country could hear his bones rattling when he told him the news. Norway’s troll had turned Finland into a pumpkin and England had taken him before Sweden could get his hands on him, and turned him into a pie. That was bad enough in Sealand’s humble opinion, but Sweden was insisting the troll was out to do it again and he was next.

The young micro-nation nearly died of fright, when Hana-Tomago started barking and they looked up to see Norway heading their way, his troll floating along behind him. Sealand wanted to hide behind Sweden, but the larger country was stupidly heading towards his fellow Nordic. Panic held him rooted to the spot, especially since he could have sworn he heard Sweden tell him, he would save him. Sweden’s conversation, which consisted of flailing arms and softly muttered threats, gave weight to the idea that Norway was really after him.

“Sve,” Norway said softly as he raised his hand and pointed at Sealand, “Finn is going to kill you when he finds out what you did to Sealand.”

“I know.”

“But you’re still going through with this?”

“Yep.”

“I don’t think this is what America meant when he explained ‘Halloween’ at the last World 8 meeting.”

“Don’t care.”

“You’re evil, Sve,” Norway said as he sent his troll flying over to the micro-nation, “You know that?”

“Yep.”

The troll hovered in the air just in front of Sealand, who squeaked in fright. “Trick or treat!” it said as it brought a massive fist over the micronation’s head.

Sealand blinked.

The troll nodded and opened its fist, showering him with candy.

Title: Germany’s Awesome Birthday

Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: PG 13 for beer drinking

Author’s note: Inspired by this motivational poster: http://kagome-chi.deviantart.com/art/Why-332830938

“OOOH!” Prussia cried. “You’re scaring me, West! Why are you pretending that I don’t exist?”

Germany looked around like he thought he had heard something. “Did you hear something, Klaus?” he asked, causing their fellow Germans at the local Biergarten to roar with laughter.

“Nein!”

“Thought so!” Germany picked up his stein and drank. “It was kind of spooky, like the ghost of Old Fritz was here.”

“Ja?”

Germany nodded.

“Maybe it was that pile of bones that’s said to come alive with a pumpkin head to strike terror in the hearts of the locals,” Rudolf suggested.

Klaus snorted. “More like strike terror in the hearts of our fellow patrons!”

Everyone, except Prussia laughed.

“That’s our wives, Klaus,” Rudolf said.

Germany smiled. “That’s why I’m glad I’m not married.”

Prussia rolled his eyes. “And here I thought you were married to Kleine Italien,” he said to no one in particular. “This is so not awesome.”

“I think my Brüder has had enough of our joking around.” Germany turned to his brother, “Gotchya!” he said, smirking as the others walked away. “I’ve always wanted to do that.”

Prussia could not help smiling. “Very funny, Brüderlein.”

Germany shrugged. “But you have to admit, you deserved it after spitting beer in my face the other day.”

Prussia nodded. “Ja… that was a waste of good beer, come to think of it.”

“Ja, so don’t let it happen again, or Otto will be the one ignoring you.”

“He wouldn’t! I’m his best customer!”

Germany grinned as his brother covered his face with his palm.

“You got me again, didn’t you?”

Germany nodded. “Thanks, this is the best birthday ever.”

“Oh, I’ve got one more present for you,” Prussia said cryptically as visions of Italy waiting at home in brother’s bed danced in his head…

Title: Huevos de Toro
Characters: Bad Touch Trio, mention of Germany and England
Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: G
Summary: The boys enjoy an evening at Spain’s house, eating weird food…
Author’s note: Criadillas, or huevos de toro is a popular Spanish dish that’s also enjoyed in Latin America that consists of fried bull testicles.
For Kat…

France looked down at the plate of food Spain had just handed him. He had eaten his fair share of “weird” foods as French cuisine was full of it. He looked over at Prussia, who was wolfing it down with gusto, and back at Spain, who was also enjoying it immensely. “What’s this called again?” he asked, poking the fried oval croquettes with his fork.

“Criadillas,” Spain said, before eating another bite.

“They’re pretty good, a lil gamey, but not bad,” Prussia said between mouthfuls.

France was almost afraid to ask, but curiosity won out. “What are they made out of?”

“Huevos de toro,” Spain replied.

“Huevos de toro…?” Prussia repeated, as he paled even more than usual.

“Bull eggs?” France said, before taking a bite. He chewed, noting Prussia was right about the gamey flavor, and swallowed. “What the hell are bull eggs?” He helped himself to more when it hit him. “Oh hell!”

“Yeah…” Spain said between bites. “They’re supposed to make you more virile.” He chuckled at looks his friends gave him. “What? At least it’s not some spooky, unidentifiable mess like that crap we ate in that English pub after the last World 8 meeting.”

Prussia laughed. “Yeah! What was that again? Steak and kidney pie?”

France nodded. “As far as pies go… that was just marginally better than the pumpkin pie England made.”

“That shit gave me nightmares! I kept dreaming my brother was making it for dinner…” Prussia paused for effect, “from England’s recipe. Then there was this pile of bones…”

“You two going to finish that?” Spain asked, as they had heard that one before.

“Yeah…” his friends chorused as they shoveled another mouthful in.

Spain smiled, until he realized next month it was Prussia’s turn to introduce them to some weird food…
