These first 2 are hard ones. I don't think in terms of tropes when I write or read, so I have no idea what my favorite or least favorite ones are. ^^; I do like sweet romantic fluff if it fits the characters, so I guess that's a fave. Least fave I guess would be rape, especially if they're using it as a way of getting laughs, or romanticizing something that shouldn't be romanticized.

This one is easy. If I'm sitting there, betaing a fic I'm reading for pleasure, then that's the quickest way to get me to stop reading it. Poor word choice is also a turn off and so is OOCness unless it's a crack!fic. So is having characters with no deep as well as fanon characterizations that don't ring true to the character. Like making France from Hetalia a rapist, simply because he's an overly amorous pervert. ;p

Ooh... I like these! :D

Yes, I've cried while reading a fic. 2 that come to mind are one about Prussia having to bury Gilbird, cuz it reminded me a lot of my cockitiel Mel died, and another was about Sweden & Finland's son Sealand dying. What made that one so heart wrenching was they had used their human names.

Gentle loving sex, please. I'll read rough sex if it's part of someone's fic over at Hentai Contest, but I don't go looking for it. Actually, I don't seek out smut to read, but if it's a part of something I'm reading, I'll keep reading. It's a part of life, but not the entirety of life. (if that makes any sense)

Depends on the fic. I just wrote fluffy/angst, but I've also written straight fluff as well as fluff in conjunction with other plot elements. I like a nice loving relationship, so that's what I tend to write.

aw

And yes it makes perfect sense. Honestly so much of smutty fic is too much smut and not enough plot (Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom was infamous for this, the 20 page sex scene of boredom)

I like a little fluff

eta - I'll post this tomorrow hopefully i'll remember

Oh good! :D Yeah. I like some plot with a side of smut, please. ;p I don't think I could read that. o.0

Cool! :D

I have as well but surprisingly little of it. (and I can't seem to kill an original character to save my soul)

same here

*nods* Me too. I do find it easier killing a "red shirt" than a main character. The closest I've come to killing off an original character, is when a character left his old life behind & made a new one for himself. So while he was alive, to his friends & family, he was dead & they did mourn his loss. I've killed off a character in an AU, but at that time he was a minor character, who later on got a bit of his own story told.

*nods*

same here. I've only killed very minor original characters. There have come times when I was supposed to kill a character and I found a way out of it that made sense story wise. hangs head.

*nods* I think the reason I haven't killed off a main original character, is that I haven't written that much original fic yet, for it to come up as a plot point. Bernd did want to die in the one fic he appeared in as he was severally depressed & dealing with a some emotional issues that had been repressed in order for him to deal with them, but knowing what his future has in store for him, it would have been stupid to kill him off. XD

Maybe I will kill someone off just to see if I can do it in a short story. :D (but first I need to finish all the crappu I've got started first XD)

I've killed off the intended murder victims in mysteries I've written but never a main character or their friends and relatives.

one of these days

I'm sure Bernd was probably happy in the long run you didn't kill him off

*nods* One expects a murder victim to die, it's when the main character dies that people get upset, unless it was a good death at end, like he had to die cuz he was old or very ill, or they did it to save someone else. Randomly killing they off, even if does kinda makes sense plot-wise, kinda annoys the reader. Especially if it was early on in the story. *thinking of when Nuriko dies in Fushigi Yuugi* His death seemed kinda random & heartless & made me cry when I read it & cry even harder in the anime when I saw it, even though I knew it was coming. XD It did serve the plot point of saying they weren't invincible, but still... T.T

*nods*

Yeah... :D Amber's really happy about that too. :D

Good ones! :D

Reading, I have no preference as long as it's good. :D If I'm writing it, I prefer one-shots. I tend to lose interest when writing chapter fics, mainly cuz I have so much going on that I can't sit & work on it exclusively. That's why one-shots work for me.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you that. Once a fic starts getting beyond 20 chapters I start losing interest. I find they would have been a lot better had the author broken it up into a series of fics, rather than the fic that doesn't end. A lot of times those monster fics are created by award groups, that allow noms for each update & if a fic is somewhat popular, it can past its expiration date. ;p

Kinky fetishes, well I've noticed a couple have turned up in my RPs with Kat. XD We have your basic toe sucking foot fetish which 2 characters in two different 'verse have. Cross dressing has also come up as well as the idea of being in a relationship with twins where it ends up in bed with both, that also ties in with an incestuous relationship with a non-twin set of siblings (these two are very closely entwined), "playing house" where the boyfriend/girlfriend pretend to be married & the boyfriend's brother is their "baby." Bestiality-lite, involving sex with a person that appears to turn an animal on, to mention of actual bestiality where a character has that as their secret desire, to play acting in bed that one is an animal, some mild bondage, all stuff I don't have enough time in the day to write up,& one I have written up where Poland dresses up as Belarus to have some fun with Lithuania & he winds up cutting poor Liet up. ;p

So apparently kira is a lot kinkier than she thought... ^^;

As for reading, if they write it, I'll read it over at Hentai Contest. :D

or when Maes died in FMA. WAAAAH. But yes if you do it right, character death hits the emotions.

From: [identity profile] kiramaru7.livejournal.com
I don't mind when characters cry at all, or maybe I should say male characters. Soma from Kuroshitsuji cries a lot & so does Angi, which I find cute, but when Sailor Moon behaves the same way I want to bitch slap her. XD Some & Angi aside, I've written other male characters crying.

I don't mind it at all. There are times when I'm upset my fave character died, as well as other times I wish they'd kill off the main character cuz I can't stand them.

It depends. If it's senseless or annoying, then yeah, I'm upset that Character X is in pain over something cuz I find it irritating as a reader, but if it fits the plot & shows real character growth & the author doesn't overdo it, then I don't mind. In my writing, I've given a character a painful nightmare, as well physical abuse, to the pain of a deep depression.

*nods* yeah, if it's done badly, then it's laughable or a waste of a good character.

Date: 2013-08-26 04:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
exactly. of course I might like to make a reader cry...

From: [identity profile] kiramaru7.livejournal.com
*nods* there's nothing wrong with wanting to make a reader cry from a character death, cuz it show you've written a really likeable character, especially if makes sense plot-wise. Doing it just because you can, to me, isn't such good writing. Nuriko's death, while on the surface looked senseless, if you look at it as a whole, now that the series is finished, it's not as senseless, cuz it kinda brought everyone back to "reality" & made them realize they're fitting a strong enemy as well showing them they're not invincible.

Date: 2013-08-26 05:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
well I agree with you there (I'll trust you on Nuriko since I never made it far in that series)
