Summary: Frederick II enjoys a moment of peace with his friend and tutor, Gilbert Beilschmidt…

Tranquil and peaceful… Frederick thought as he closed his book. His dear friend and tutor, Gilbert Beilschmidt, lay with his head in the Frederick’s lap, snoring softly in the shade of the large oak tree Frederick rested against. He sighed contentedly. Here, there were no pressures of life at court and more importantly, no father to humiliate him and make his life a misery. Frederick drank in the sweet scent of freedom, where he could sit, reading a book, or play his flute, without a care in the world. It was a heady feeling and one he came to treasure.

Summary: Young Frederick II heartbroken over the loss of his sheet music and flute is almost afraid to seek solace from his tutor’s…

Frederick cried as his sheet music went up in flames in the fireplace. The young crown prince did not know which hurt worse, the loss of his precious music, the remains of his broken flute, or the welts that were beginning to rise and ache on his body as his father swore to beat his effeminate nature out of him. When his tutor entered the room, Frederick sat there, afraid to seek solace in Gilbert Beilschmidt’s arms. His tutor’s whispered words of comfort worked their magic and Frederick felt better. The promise of a new flute and music helped too.

Summary: Prussia finds

Prussia dumped the box of keys on the desk. They clattered onto the wood with a metallic tinkle. Each one held a special meaning for him. He sifted through them; looking for one in particular, fear gripping his heart that he had lost the one that meant the most to him, until he found it. Holding the key in his hand, he sighed softly. It was the key to Frederick II’s private chambers. Prussia smiled as he recalled all the fun they had had together during Frederick’s lifetime along with the sorrow. Closing his eyes, the memories washed over him.

Bittersweet - but more sweet than bitter. What a lonely life something like Prussia would ultimately have lived over the centuries! It is a deep wide chasm that's hard to jump over when I write him this way - but you do it wonderfully; just the right balance - these were wonderful! :)

Thanks! Yeah... it really must be very lonely to be immortal (or close to it). Thanks, when I write him missing Fritz, I think about what it must be like to miss a lover who's passed away & all the loneliness of having lost one's soulmate. XD Now that I think about it, there's a lot more to Prussia than he lets on. XD But that's not to say you don't write a great a Prussia. You do! I don't think I could ever capture his wild side, that primal animal soul that lives for war & conquest! When you play with him, I can smell the blood & guts, & gunpowder & hear the roar of canons the sharp crack of a rifle, the cries of the dying & smell the stench of fear & death. Even when he's trying to get the upperhand where Austria's concerned, there's an echo of that battlefield there in your writing. <3
