Title: A Sovereignty Days Tale
Author: kira
Word Count: 1148
World: The Duchy of Saint-Germaine
Main Characters: Pashmina, Grande Duke Alexander Saint-Germaine, mention of Christophe Babtiste & Bastian Castille

Summary: The Grande Duke and his beloved kitten decide to go to the Capital to spend some time celebrating Sovereign Days. Alexander invites his friends.
Author’s note: Madrona is a post apocalyptic world, set mainly in Europe, in what is a new renaissance. Pashmina is a kitten which is a high class prostitute. Alexander is patron, which means he either owns a kitten for a set period of time, or bought out the kitten’s contract completely, so if that were the case, if the kitten wanted to, they would be free to leave and be their own person, should they tired of their patron or the patron tires of them. They generally go on to opening a brothel of their own after wards, although a few are lucky and manage to marry their patrons.
Author’s note 2: This will eventually become a collab with my friend Jen, who owns the characters Christophe Babtiste & Bastian Castille.
Author’s note 3: Sovereignty Days is a Carnevale like experience with vendors coming and going throughout the month. The last days are a reenactment from one of the more glorious wars from Madrona’s history. (taken from the “Capital City’s visitor guide”)
“Pashmina?” Alexander Saint-Germaine said as he worked on his correspondence. While he wrote at his writing desk, his beloved kitten sat in an overstuffed chair by the fireplace, reading a book. Now that spring had arrived, he was thinking of heading to the Capital to take part in the Sovereignty Days celebrations.
“Hmmm…?” Pashmina was engrossed in his book and he barely gave a half an ear to whatever it was his patron was talking about. He turned the page as if Alexander had not said a thing.
“I was wondering if you wanted to go to Madrona and celebrate Sovereign Days.”
Pashmina looked up. “What?”
“Sovereign Days… you know, the big celebration of our Capital’s history.”
“Oh… the thing that’s kinda like Vine-fest, but is different?” Pashmina smiled.
“Yeah, that thing.” Alexander smiled back.
Pashmina giggled. “Only if you want to, Your Grace,” he said, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
Alexander rolled his eyes. “It was just a thought.”
“I know, Alex.”
“I was thinking, your friend Bastian might be there.”
“Yeah…” Pashmina smiled. “It would be nice to see him again. You know, I haven’t properly thanked him for bringing the two of us together.”
“No?”
Pashmina shook his head. “I had wanted to write to him several times, but then, some things are better said in person.”
“If you want, I could write to my friend Chris and see if he’s going to be there.”
“Please do, Alex!” Pashmina marked his place in the book and closed it. He got up and walked over to his patron. “It’s been almost two years since I’ve seen him.”
Alex picked up the pen and wrote on a fresh piece of stationery a quick note, asking if old friend Christophe Babtiste was going to be in town for Sovereignty Days and if so, would he like come spend a few days at his new apartment in the heart of the Capital. “Anything you want me to add?”
Pashmina peered over his shoulder at what his patron wrote.
My dear Chris,
It’s been a while since we last saw each other and I miss you, my friend. I recently bought an apartment near the palace district and Pashmina and I will be going there to celebrate Sovereign Days. I was wondering if you’ll be in town for it and if you and Bastian would like to spend a few days with us. I’d ask the Lady Josette to accompany you as well, but I know this is last minute and I’m sure she’s made plans by now. I hope it’s something, my friend; you can get out of as I’d love to have the pleasure of your company for a few days, longer if you can.
Pashmina hopes Bastian will accompany you as he’d like to properly thank him for introducing us. Please tell him it won’t be an imposition at all. My apartment is large and has plenty of room to accommodate guests.
Please let me know as soon as humanly possible if you’re going to meet us there, so I can make the proper arraignments.
Your friend,
Alex
“It’s good, Alex,” Pashmina said. “I can’t think of anything else to add.”
“Thanks.” Alexander blotted the ink, before folding the letter and tucking it inside an envelope. He sealed it and wrote his friend’s address on it.
Pashmina sighed. “I guess this means I’d better start packing.”
“I’m sorry, Pashmina, I know you had your heart set on going to Firenze, but maybe we can go during the summer.”
“It’s okay, Your Alexness.” He smiled. “It’ll be fun seeing our friends again, so don’t worry about it.” Pashmina’s smile grew impish and Alexander laughed as he pulled him onto his lap. “But if it’ll make you feel better, I’ll pout for you.” He pouted.
Alexander laughed again as he held his beloved kitten close. “This is why I love you, my dear.”
“What? You love me for my pout?” Pashmina said with mock indignation.
“Silly thing!” Alexander said. “I love you for you simply being you.” His playful expression turned serious. “I mean it too.”
“I know….”
“Enough idling about now! We’ve got trunks to pack and servants sent on ahead to open the apartment and air it out, pretty new gowns for you to be ordered and all the underpinnings that go with them.”
Pashmina giggled.
“What?”
“Well, I was thinking that when we were going to Firenze, I wasn’t going to need any clothes at all and who knew that by simply going to the Capital, I was going to get a whole new wardrobe. And don’t give me that look, Your Alexness! I know you! You’ll say it’s only a couple of new gowns and underpinnings as you call them, but by the time you’re done, I’ll have a whole new wardrobe.” Pashmina smiled. “Not that I’m complaining…”
“No, not at all,” Alexander chuckled. He reached up, and cupping his kitten’s cheek, he pulled him closer for a kiss. “Then it’s settled. We’ll leave in two weeks for Madrona.”
“Two weeks? That’s not enough time to get one dress made, let alone a whole wardrobe.”
“Yeah… “
“Alexander Saint-Germaine!”
“Yes?” He smirked.
“You went and ordered me a new wardrobe, didn’t you?”
“Yes.” Alexander smiled. “I’m sorry if that offends you.”
Pashmina’s expression softened. “No, it doesn’t. I’m just teasing you.” He kissed him on the nose. “But seriously, what am I going to do with you?”
“I don’t know.” Alexander smirked. “Then again, my dear, you can just sit back and let me spoil you rotten.”
“I suppose so…” Pashmina leaned in and kissed him. While a part of him hated being doted on as the fear of Alexander tiring of him and eventually leaving him was always in the back of his mind, another part ate it up. He vaguely remembered being spoiled by his parents and it was one of reasons why whenever his patron spoiled him it always left him feeling so conflicted. Knowing Alexander knew of his fear and did his best to quell it, by sharing his own fear with him, still did not help to banish it as Passhmina could not shake it.
“Yeah…” Alexander murmured against his lips. He felt his beloved tense. Breaking the kiss, he said. “Come; let’s do something that’ll take your mind off of things.”
“What? You want to go riding?” Pashmina said with a saucy smile. He had a feeling he knew what his patron was up to and he loved him all the more for the distraction. Pashmina got up off Alexander’s lap.
“You could say that.” Alexander winked. He stood, and taking Pashmina’s hand, they left his study.
“You know it’s still morning. What would the servants say if they knew?”
“They’d say I was a lucky man,” Alexander said with a mile.
Pashmina smiled back at him. “Indeed….”
