Title: Her Summer Job
Fandom: Original
Prompt: Sandcastle
Medium: Fic
Size: 292 words
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Summary/Preview: Amber’s latest job is at Sandacstle…
Author’s note: Please note that Amber belongs to Kat; I’m just borrowing her for this fic.
Amber was one of those kids who seemed to collect odd jobs the way some people collect stamps or butterflies. Sandcastle, a local ice cream parlor, was her newest job. The place was beach themed, which she liked, and it was just busy enough to keep the boredom at bay. She spent most of her time ringing things up as she had a lot of cashier experience. Occasionally, she would dish out the many flavors of ice cream, or make sundaes. She made the odd milk shake or ice cream soda.
Whenever Bernd got out early from his job, bagging groceries at the local supermarket, he would meet her there and they would share a cone, while waiting for his father to pick them up. He also met her on his lunch break, where they often shared his turkey sandwiches, Amber taking her break at the same time.
As far summer jobs went, this one was one of her favorites. The only thing she hated was that Sandcastles was only open from May to September. As she rang up a group of kids and their harried mother, she wondered if she could land her dream job; working at the Halloween store. It may have only been a temp-job, but it was her kind of place. Mentally shrugging, she noticed she still had another ten minutes to go before Bernd stopped by and her break began. She could not wait until her shift ended and she went home with Bernd and checked online for an application. If her dream job was not available, there were plenty of other odd jobs. Work as work and Amber was not picky. Still, it would be nice to work somewhere where it did not feel like work.
