Wolfgang picked up several windfall apples from the yard and brought them inside. Setting them on the kitchen table, he took off his jacket and went downstairs to get the coil of bailing wire Bernd had found while exploring the stable. Returning with the wire and a pair of pliers, he set them down and made himself another cup of coffee.
He sipped his coffee, before picking up an apple. Treating it like a giant bead, Wolfgang pushed it onto the wire. It was followed by the rest of the apples. Wolfgang then shaped it in a circle, before reaching for the pliers. He twisted the wire together, cutting one side short and using the longer side to make a hook to hang the wreath. He tied a piece of brown ribbon on top to mask the hook. Putting on his jacket, Wolfgang brought the wreath outside and hung it on a tree where he also hung a couple of birdfeeders.
Wolfgang stood back to admire his handiwork. He smiled when a squirrel scuttled down the tree and tried to take off with the wreath. Unable to budge it, the squirrel settled for a couple of bites, before going down to look for nuts. When a blue stopped by for a bite of apple, he knew his wreath would serve its purpose as an extra food source. Turning on his heel, Wolfgang went back inside to bake Didi a cake for his birthday.
