Agni sighed. He was determined to look after Soma, protecting his delicate sensibilities from the harsh realities of life. Now he found himself adrift; stuck serving Meena and her English husband, while lamenting the fact that Soma had no idea that he had found her or the conditions of her returning home with them. As he wrote out the note he was supposed to leave behind, Agni resolved to find a way to let Soma know he was still thinking about him.
It was just as he finished writing it, that inspiration hit. Soma was a big devotee of Lady Kali’s and he figured if he drew a mouth with a tongue sticking out, the prince would get the reference. Making the leap to Agni was something he hoped Soma would get. If not, perhaps he could drop a hint or two and with a bit of luck, the prince would realize Meena was not worth his time and they could go on with their lives without her.
Attaching the note, he prayed to the Lady Kali that the Englishmen he had strung up would survive the night as he hated the idea of having their deaths on his head. Now that he had a new life with Soma, he desperately wanted to leave his old ways behind him. Working for Meena, had him doing the very things that had led him so far astray that his former life had became forfeit. He hoped and prayed that he had escaped that fate and that gods had not found a perverse pleasure in having it befall him in this godforsaken place.
Agni sent up a little prayer to the gods to watch over the foolish Englishmen. He looked around and melted into the shadows. He needed to hurry back to Soma…
