Bankotsu picked up his guitar and strummed the opening bars of Led Zeppelin’s “The Rain Song.” He sang softly, “This is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know … You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before…
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low… ooh, ooh, whoa-oh…”

Jakotsu walked into the living room and sat down next to him. They had had a fight, a very nasty and bitter one, and both were feeling badly about it, but neither one wanted to be the first to apologize as they both felt they were right. But as he sat there, listening to his life-partner sing, Jakotsu heard the apology in the love song Bankotsu sang.

“Uh, talk, talk, talk, talk…Hey, I felt the coldness of my winter... I never thought it would ever go-whoa… I cursed the gloom that set upon us, 'pon us, 'pon us… but I know that I love you so-oh… Oh-whoa, mm-but I know that I love you so-whoa…”

The cross-dresser felt his eyes welling up with tears. “I’m sorry, Ban honey,” he said softly.

Bankotsu nodded, and finished the song. “These are the seasons of emotion…and like the wind, a-they rise and fall…This is the wonder of devotion… I see the torch we all must hold… This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient… Uh, upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall… Just a little rain, hoh, now…Aw, woo-ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah…” Setting his guitar aside, Bankotsu welcomed his life-partner in his arms. They held each other close, the hurt feelings going away, as they realized just how deeply they loved each other…

They were out having fun at Karaoke Night at a little club, deep in the heart of Tokyo’s Roppongi District. It was a warm spring evening and the Kirins were flowing as Bankotsu and Jakotsu hung out with their friends from the band Youkai and the guys’ wives. Everyone had a good laugh at Sesshomaru, who had just finished singing LMFAO’s “I’m sexy and I know it.”

It was Jakotsu’s turn at the mic and he smiled sweetly at his audience. The opening bars of Katy Perry’s “Peacock” began to play. “I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock…
Your peacock, cock… You peacock, cock, cock…” He shook his hips and strutted around. “Your peacock… I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock… Your peacock, cock…
Your peacock, cock, cock…Your peacock…”

Bankotsu nearly choked on his beer. Jakotsu looked really hot tonight up there, singing. Feeling a pleasant buzz, he called out, “It’s over here, Sweetness,” as he pointed to his crotch.

Their friends thought it was priceless and in the spirit of drunken camaraderie, they egged them on. Jakotsu, of course, was only too happy to oblige them. He sauntered over to Bankotsu and gave him his best smoldering look as he sang, “Are you brave enough to let me see you peacock? Whatchu waiting for, it's time for you to show it off… Don't be a shy kinda guy, I'll bet it's beautiful… Come on, baby, let me see…”

Bankotsu put his hands behind his head and wiggled his hips, the bulge in his pants hard to miss.

Jakotsu stopped singing. “You really do love me, Ban honey!” Walking away from the mic, he pounced on Bankotsu amid cries of “That’s some peacock you got there, Ban!” and “Get a room, you two!”

Byakuya looked over at Hiten and smiled. “Let’s go out and do something, Hi-chan! It’s a beautiful spring day and we’re cooped up inside like a couple of old farts!” His eyes flashed with emotion and Hiten sighed.

“You go, Kuya-chan, I’m tired.”

It was Byakuya’s turn to sigh. “You can’t hide in here forever, Hi-chan. Nobody knows you have AIDS and I doubt they’d give a rat’s ass if they did!”

“But…”

“But nothing, you can’t hide from the world,” Byakuya sat at his lover’s feet. “The sun is shining, it’s lovely and warm… The birds are singing…” He pleaded silently with his eyes. “If what they say is true and it’s a… it’s a death sentence,” he said defiantly, and his expression softening, he added, “then we don’t have that many springs together. Please don’t waste this one by being a stupid recluse.”

“They’re going to know, Kuya-chan when they see me…”

Byakuya made a little dismissive sound. “All they’ll see is you’ve lost some weight. We could say you’ve been sick and that’s technically not a lie.”

“You really want to go outside, don’t you?”

“Yeah… and not alone, I want you by my side, Hi-chan.”

“Okay… Around the block okay? I’m feeling kinda tired…”

Byakuya nodded, not trusting himself to speak without bursting into tears. He appreciated the effort his lover was making more than he could put into words. Squeezing Hiten’s knees affectionately, he smiled. “Let’s go, Hi-chan.”

Hiten nodded, chuckling softly as his lover pulled him to his feet. He felt that with Byakuya at his side, he could face the world he had retired from shortly after his diagnosis. “Yeah…”
