Rin snuggled up to Sesshomaru, his fluffy wrapped tightly around her, protecting her from the cold. She felt nice and warm in furry depths and she was grateful for his kindness. By now she knew better than to thank him for being so nice, instead, Rin softly sang the little song she had made up about him. She felt his hand briefly on her head and giggled.

Sesshomaru snorted in amusement. Despite Jaken’s occasional complaining about her, she had turned out to be a welcome presence in his life. She had given him unconditional love from the moment they had met, something which at first angered him, but that had quickly become puzzlement. Now that she was a permanent fixture in their lives, he accepted it as his due, and was slowly learning to return it in his own taciturn way.

Neither one at this point could imagine life without the other. Rin may have only been a child, with a child’s hopes and dreams, such as serving her lord when she got older, but Sesshomaru saw the woman she would become in, what was to him, the blink of an eye. And he liked what he saw too as he wondered when he had become like the father he revered on the one hand and despised on the other. When Rin shifted so that she could look up at him and smile, Sesshomaru found he did not care what he was as long as she remained by his side…
