Haru listened to his iPod as he wandered around aimlessly. He had no clear destination in mind and if he wound up at Shigure’s house, so be it. The sun was shining warmly on his face, despite the crisp autumn air, and his favorite song was playing while one foot kept going in front of the other. It was not long before he reached the wooded path leading to his cousin’s house.

Shigure’s home was built in the traditional style, with some modern conveniences, and it sat nestled in a mall wooded area. Haru liked it as it was so much more peaceful than the family compound. And it had Yuki... sweet wonderful, terrific, adorable Yuki. He could never figure out why his cousin Kyo hated him so much. What’s not to love about Yuki?

Haru walked up the little stone path. He approached the house, imagining Shigure hard at work on his next novel, Kyou verbally sparring with Yuki, while Tohru was busy puttering around the kitchen. He wondered just how true that scene in his head was as he took the two steps up onto the low veranda. Another two and he slipped into the house. Haru was surprised to find it empty until he realized today was the day Tohru was supposed to go see Akito. His happy visions of the warm family reunion shattered and vanished. Sighing softly, Haru turned around and headed home, his iPod tuned to his second favorite song as he put one foot in front of the other…
