I just want everyone to know I survived Sandy just fine... the only downside, aside from the loss of a few big trees on my block, was the loss of power & heat. Sitting around the flashlight at 7 o'clock and shivering from no heat rapidly loses its charms. Spending time at the laundromat was interesting... there's nothing like a catfight over a dryer to alleviate the boredom. ;p

YAY for rellies with generators! So we never lost any frozen stuff, just what was in the fridge. *sighs* And I lost my fish... they all died cuz they got too cold. T.T

Other than feeling like a displaced person... it was an adventure. One I don't want to relive in a hurry. XD

PS: Thanks to everyone who sent me a pumpkin cookie! They were so nice to come home to! :D

YAY and *hugs*

yay, I'm glad you're okay. I just mentioned last night I was worried about you.

Don't get me started on laundromats (8 years of that and counting)

I'm sorry you lost your fish.

Had some dragons for you but they grew up. Breed you some next time.

Awe... thanks! It sucks not being able to let everyone know I was fine. XD

*laughs* I don't think I could do it all the time; the 3 times I went was enough. XD

Thanks... yeah... guppies & catfish don't like the cold. XD At least it's not stinky. I'll clean it out on the weekend & start all over. :D

Thanks! I was able to get online briefly right before it ended & grabbed me 7 eggs. I just hated that I never saw them grow up. Luckily my friend Jen was able to put them in the hatcheries for me. Unfortunately they all gendered male. XD Next year, I'll try fro some girls. :D

It's mostly the management of LIPA that sucks. My poor brother works for National Grid and as been working 16 hours day with no breaks.

I am glad you got your electric back finally and nothing to major happened to you and your family. I feel lucky that they restored my electric not to long after the storm but that is one of the advantages of living on the main road.

All I have to say is buy a generator after this. My family had one and we had heat & electric for the food :)

I heard the BIG BOSS resigned over there. I'm sure he hasn't heard the end of it too from all those angry customers. I know we were eating out & there was a crew from a power truck there & people were pestering them about when are they coming to fix their block, & they were like they were on break from the south shore & just going where they're told. XD It was totally mismanaged. I can remember going back & forth from my house to my grandparents' (before I ran low on gas) and seeing power trucks on my side of the LIE & the other, evidently heading somewhere, but who knows where? XD It seemed kinda silly, if you were at spot X working, then it seems logical to go to spot Y next, ne? But it looked like they were heading out to spot B instead. XD

Thanks! *huggles* Yeah, you're lucky there! :D My aunty got stuck coming home from the city by a downed wire across the train tracks. It took like 3 hours for her to get home to Great Neck. ^^; they had to back the train up until they reached a spot where they could switch to another track. It was a nightmare. ^^;

Yeah... my dad is thinking about it. It was ridiculous! 2 weeks without power or heat! That's good! My grandparents have a big one, so we saved some food and at least we had l;8ights, heat & TV. I also briefly jumped on their compy to catch the holiday eggs. *laughs* I got a yaoi bunch! they all hatched out Male on me. XD

I know but the poor workers just get sent where they are told to go, no rhyme nor reason which is probably why the CEO stepped down.

Yeah those guys were probably without power themselves and missing their families. One guy from LIPA got beat up because of it.

The gas thing was crazy. It's better now but I spent two hours trying to get gas.

I am sure it was. Your poor aunt.

I am glad you were able to save somethings. Yeah generators are definitely a good investment. Especially since you seem to lose electricity a lot. My dad got one a couple of years ago because we get bad snow storms and we never know if that will cause a wire to go down.

I got a good mix without me doing influence... weird since I am the one who usually gets mostly boys XD

I know & that's the crazy part. It was like they had no clue what to do. >.> If he handled things better, he'd still have his job. ;p

*nods* Yeah... it was crazy, but then again I heard stories on the radio of people saying they never really lost power as a LIPA employee lived on their block. XD All I know is 2 weeks is just way too long to fix things, especially since I'm nowhere near water. Houses that were flooded, do need to be inspected beforehand to make sure it's safe to turn things back on & I can see those poor people having to wait, but everyone else really shouldn't have had to wait more than a couple of fays tops. They really needed to have coordinated things better with the tree crews to clear the area so they could get to the power lines & fix things.

I know, right? That's insane. They did the odd/even thing in Jersey, so why not here? Why wait until things were desperate before doing the smart thing? XD

Yeah... she was sick during the storm & that was her first day back at work & she was frazzled by the time she got home. XD

Welcome back! Glad to hear you’re okay and that you have power again – 2 weeks is way, way too long to be without! (I lost mine for 4 days and it felt like forever!) I hope everything continues to go back to normal for you. And so sorry to hear about your fish, that really sucks :(

If your life was an AU fanfiction, I’m sure the Laundromat would have been much more charming :) Silly, real world…

Thanks! *huggles* Hell yeah!! I felt like a refugee/displaced person. I was lucky I could go to rellies, but still... it sucks having to leave home cuz it was too cold. XD I got used to no lights, I actually read a lot more in those 2 weeks than I normally do, so that was good. :D

We were out of power for 4 days after Irene which was pretty bad too, but we stayed put since, it was hot & stuffy, rather than bitterly cold.

Thanks... *huggles* And to think I lost the whole tank over the summer except for the catfish when it got too warm. We had a mini heatwave & were my fish are, there's no air-conditioning in that room since it's relatively cool, and the water just got too hot & I kept doing water changes & all, but the fish couldn't handle it. *sighs*

*laughs* Yeah! XD

Yeah, leaving home doesn’t sound like fun. I think I got lucky with the cold – my building is pretty old and the walls are thick, so the cold didn’t seep in as much (and I have a super fluffy robe and lots of fuzzy socks!) Haha, I also got a lot of reading done! Reading by flashlight was kind of fun - I felt like I was camping in my own apartment!

Ugh, I’m happy I wasn’t around for Irene. Sounds like it was a mess.

Yeah... You really do feel displaced, unlike when you go away on vaycay. XD

That was good. I'm asthmatic & when I started having trouble cuz of the cold, we left. *was more concerned about my birds getting sick than myself* I'm glad they didn't get sick. They're singing behind me :D

Fluffy bathrobes & socks rule! ;p I slept in thermal underwear & sweat socks. XD

Yeah! We had a blackout a while back in the summer & I remember reading Harry Potter by candlelight. XD It really aed to story too. XD

Thanks! *huggles* Glad you're okay too! How's your fur-babies manage? The cute lil fluff-ball down the block was terrified after the hurricane had past. ^^;

That's not so bad, we were out that much for Irene. This was j7ust plain insanity being out for so long. I've heard there are a few places here & there that are out & will be out for longer than me. ^^; Those poor people! *sighs*

Thanks... I did have a problem with the tank getting too hot this summer & getting blown & killing my fish... *sighs* So if this is just the proverbial pendulum swinging back the other way, I can live with it. :D

They weren't phased by the storm, but the cold took a toll on my two little ones. I was going to bring them up to my folks if we hadn't gotten power back the day we did (they could not keep warm and lost interest in eating). The generator I have for work wasn't big enough to run our furnace, though we did get a bigger one for the house this week just in case something comes up again. The repairs they are doing here are temporary and we lost power again with the snow storm. They got it back up the next day, but I can't leave it to chance with the weather only getting colder.

Yes, I do have clients who are still out. It's insane. Even driving to places with power feels like driving through a war zone.

Well that stinks. I lost some cories once due to a nitrite spike. I treated and tested all my tank water before water changes, but it was during a heatwave so I think the temp sped up bacterial growth in the tank - at least that's my theory. I felt so badly after that.

That's good it didn't scare them, but I feel their pain about the cold. I was stuck at home for a couple of hours after work, until I could get a ride to my grandparent's once I was back at work and the last day I was there, before I left to go visit my friend, I was in the house & it was 50 degrees & I was sitting there, shivering under some blankets. I don't think having fur would have help me either. XD *laughs* All I did was eat. XD But I do remember feeling sleepy from the cold.

Smart idea! That's got to really suck, losing power again!! I think I would have killed something if that happened here! XD And it's just too cold to mess around with people like that. It really sucks sitting around in the dark to begin with, adding cold to that mix... ^^;

Those poor people!! It really is like a war zone!! Thankfully we don't have any wires hanging anymore, but there are still downed trees here & there that are slowly being taken care of. >.> Part of the reason we had lost power was a downed tree that was resting on the wires. XD We had all called LIPA about 8it too, numerous times before they came out on Monday to ahve a look at it & start taking it down. >.>

Awe... *huggles* I think that's what happened to me too; the bacterial growth was too much for the tank's balance due to the heat & the fish couldn't handle it. I lost a lost of pretty guppies & their babies. T.T This weekend, since I have too much other crap to worry about, I'm going to break down the down & clean it out & start all over again. Next weekend, I'll go get fish & slowly start the tank up again. XD

Thanks! *huggles* It honestly wasn't that bad a storm where I was. We did lose a lot of big trees in the neighborhood & that's what took out the power. Only a handful of houses had any real damage. We had a dented gutter. The bird feeders didn't even have a scratch. ;p

XD Well... they are tropical fish, so yeah. XD

Yeah... thanks. *huggles* I'm in the middle of Long Island, so no flooding; just downed trees, but it always takes us FOREVER to get power back, whenever it goes out for some stupid reason. >.>

Honestly, I don't think that would help, since it's the same whenever we have an outage, but this was insane. No power, no heat & it snowed a few days later. Manhattan was able to get things going & they were flooded in some areas, but LI can't figure it out to save their lives. ^^;
