Author’s note: Thanks to my beta, Jen, for looking this over for me. HIM is a real Finnish band that I believe likes to host a free concert on New Year’s eve.

For Kat …
“What’re your plans for tonight?” Denmark asked as he sat down at table with a mug of hot chocolate.
“Sve and I are going to the HIM concert,” Finland said. He sipped his hot cocoa.
Denmark nodded. “Sweet! I had a lot of fun last year when we went with you.”
“Yeah! Sve and I like to go every year.”
Sweden nodded. “What are you going to do?’
“Norge and I haven’t decided yet, but we’ll think of something, right Norge?’
“Yeah…” Norway said. He was only half paying attention to the general conversation, as he watched his brother hold his cup of cocoa in his hands. Iceland, who was normally taciturn, was even more quiet than usual. “You okay, Ice?”
Iceland nodded. He felt like crap and the last thing he wanted to do was sit around, talking about partying. All he wanted to do was grab Mr. Puffin and head back to bed and screw the New Year. However, he went along with it as he did not want his brother worrying about him.
“So what’re your plans, Icy?” Denmark asked.
“Hunh?” Iceland stared blankly at him.
“I asked what your plans are.” Denmark leered at him. “Boy she, or he, must be pretty hot, if you’re spacing out thinking about them.”
“Who?”
“Your date for New Year’s Eve.”
“Don’t have plans…” Iceland sighed. I guess it’s better Norge finds out U’m sick now rather than later…
“Why not?” Denmark asked, totally mystified that Iceland seemingly had no desire to party.
“Cuz I feel like shit, if you must know.” Iceland stood up to go. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’d like to call an end to the meeting of the Nordic 5, wish you guys a Happy New Year, and go home.”
“Brother, do you want me to come with you?” Norway asked as he also stood up.
“It’s okay, you and Dan have plans.”
“But if you’re sick, we can change them, right, Dan?”
Denmark sighed. He was really looking forward to ringing in the New Year with Norway… alone. “Sure…”
Finland looked over at Sweden and back at the young Nordic. “Sve and I can always catch HIM when they go on tour to promote their new album, which is due out next year.”
Sweden nodded.
“It’ll be the first time we’ve all be together, so it should be fun!” Finland enthused.
“Yeah!” Denmark found himself agreeing. When he thought it over, it was preferable to fighting the crowds at their favorite club, and he could always delay his first nookie of the New Year with Norway a few hours. Since his beloved would be happy with that turn of events, Demark saw it as a win/win situation. “So it’s settled! The Nordic 5 will ring in the New Year together!”
Sweden held up his mug of cocoa as if in a toast, nodded, and drank it. The rest of the Nordics, except for Iceland followed suit.
“Let’s get you home and in bed,” Norway said as he stood up to go.
Iceland sighed. “I’m not a lil kid, Norge. I can take care of myself.”
“I know, but I’d feel better about it.”
“Listen to your brother, Ice,” Finland said, “And go. The three of us will put to get a slumber party. You know, with chips and ice cream, and other good stuff to eat and drink.”
Norway nodded. “Sounds like a plan.” He smiled.
Denmark snorted. “Now I get why you call him your wife, Sve.” He winked.
Sweden gave him one of his rare smiles, although, Finland was not amused.
“Anyway… Let’s make a list of what we need to get…” Finland got up for a paper and pen.
While their fellow Nordics took care of party planning, Norway said softly to his brother, “Let’s go, Ice.”
“Okay…”
Later that evening, the five Nordics sat in Iceland’s living room, watching the New Year’s festivities on TV. Everyone was in their pajamas, Denmark having declared it to be a pajama party. Norway sat on the sofa, his brother’s head pillowed in his lap, while he dozed. He would occasionally exchange glances with Denmark, who sprawled in a nearby chair. Sweden was in heaven on the loveseat with Finland leaning on him as they shared a bowl of popcorn. It may have rather tame by World 8 party standards, not that anyone minded as they were all together for a change. A few minutes before midnight, Norway woke up his brother and when they started the countdown on TV, the Nordics all counted down with them.
“… three… two… one… Happy New Year!!” they chorused, before heading off to bed…
