Characters: Prussia, Germany
Challenge: January 2013: Apocalypse
Bonus Words: pandemic, shelter, alliance, disaster, pickle
Rating: G
Summary: Prussia reads his diaries, until Germany interrupts him…
Prussia read the diary labeled “Apocalypse.” It was not his favorite, being filled with death, destruction, and defeat. He read over the entries for plague, grimly noting his accounts of the Black Plague from when he was a young Teutonic Knight and how the disease had spread from China to all of Europe in one of the greatest pandemics of all time. There were other entries under that subheading; tales of trying to find shelter from a disease no one understood.
Sighing softly as he flipped through the diary, he found the entries listed under the heading of “Disasters.” These had been more subjective in nature, like how it had felt to be conquered and partitioned by various nations in the Baltic regions, to being separated from his brother after WWII and the subsequent building of the Berlin Wall. There was even a small entry about how he had felt after Frederick the Great’s death.
“Brüder?” Germany said, his voice pulling Prussia from his brooding over what he was reading.
“What do you want, West?”
“I’ve got the sauerbraten cooking and I need you to watch it for me, while I run up to the market. I thought I’d make some pickled cabbage and brats for lunch.”
Prussia, feeling better thanks to his brother’s interruption, looked up at him and smiled. “Yeah?”
Germany nodded. “I’ll make some of those pretzels you like too.”
“Thanks, West.”
“No problem.” Germany picked up a diary and thumbed through it. “Alliances?”
Prussia nodded. “Yeah… I journal everything, West.”
“I see that.”
“Anyway, that diary was about various alliances that came and went through the years. I even have a few in there from Vati’s time. You can borrow it if you want.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah…”
“Thanks…”
Prussia waved him away and went back to reading…
