Anyone on my f-list like Doctor Who? I remember when the newer shows came out & it really didn't grab me. However, when I had been home from work due to various holidays & snow days, I caught it on BBC America & started watching it. I started with Ten & Eleven, and then they started airing Twelve. So, thinking I missed some of Twelve's episodes, I hunted it down online & watched all of series 8. I really only missed a couple of episodes. :D Also since I had seen several episodes with Ten & Eleven, I decided to go back & start with Nine (season 1).

Apparently, Nine only wanted to do one season & it kinda shows. The actor doesn't seen to know what to do with the role. XD Plus the first season with any new show, it always feels like it's trying to find its way. Then I moved onto Ten. I like him, there was chemistry between him & his companion, Rose, although it does seem a bit one-sided at times, but it does add a bit to it & makes Rose's departure from the show all the more poignant. We get a brief glimpse of future companion, Donna, before he settles down with Martha. As a character, she's pretty tough, can hold her own, but aside from being a strong female lead, nothing... *sighs* She's neither here nor there. Yes, when she's in trouble the Doctor will save her, but you can see his hearts are with Rose. She's almost like a rebound girlfriend, just someone there to keep him from being lonely. *sighs* Mickey as a companion was also kind of a waste, which was sad. He obviously liked Rose a lot, but she only had eyes for the Doctor. XD

Since I'm currently in season 3 & while I have seen a good portion of it, I prefer to watch it in order, mainly to see it as it should have been seen. Therefore I don't want to comment too much on his other companions.

I can talk about the Doctors in a general sense. I did like the last 3. All were good in the own way. As for River Song, good idea on paper, but annoying to watch. Yes, I get she's supposed to be mysterious & the actress was awesome, but still annoying with the "time skipping" that's associated with the character. Maybe if when I see her episodes in order, I'll like the character more, rather than thinking it was a good idea on paper that just doesn't work in "real life."

I also thought the Master was good the first time around when I saw him (is a later season), but I don't like the iodea of him being a woman now. She just comes across as a bitch, rather than a a good foe for him to battle. :D

Omg! I <3 <3 Doctor Who! (See what I did there ;) ). And I know a couple of diehards who would be scandalized by what you said--though I tend to agree with most of it (is still a Nine/Rose fan, but he was my first Doctor and she my first companion, sooooo....). And I have a secret love for Martha...as far as the reboot goes, she seems to have been the brainiest of the companions, which I think fit with her "rebound"/unrequited love role. I am still confused as hell over the whole River Song thing....maybe it was the age difference, but I don't think she and Eleven played off each other well. I would love to have seen more of her and Ten--they seemed to have the chemistry. And I frickin' hate Clara Oswald! (Or, I hate her paired with Eleven....it's so humdrum!!). But she and Twelve, on the other hand, are awesome together. She's like his nanny :D

And I absolutely adored the Master (played by John Simm). I really am hoping they haven't turned him into that crazy bitch at the end of season 8. Just....no. Please God no.

YAY! :D Yeah? XD I likes Rose, but I didn't care for Nine. I think that's why I never got into it the first time around. XD Martha definitely is very smart, but she doesn't play well off of Ten, which is sad. It's good that she doesn't like him the way Rose did, which makes her smarts work, but it's jarring to go from one companion that loved him to one that's kinda put off by his feelings for the previous one & who also is a complete turn around in that she sees him as a friend, instead of boyfriend.

I'm hoping River Song (I know "Spoilers!" about her), story will clear up once I see the episodes in order. I know she's meant to time skip, but still... XD The age difference didn't bother me at all, it's the way she seems all over the place & sort of omniscient, but never says anything about what she knows. I've only seen her with Elven, so I'm looking forward to seeing her turn up with Ten. I agree with you about Clara & Twelve. I feel like there's more to her than we're shown & I really wish they would go/would have gone into it more & explain why she's the "Impossible Girl."

Yes!! the Master as a guy, brilliant & the actor playing too. The Master as a woman... she's that crazy bitch, or that's what it looks like. *crinkles nose in disgust* Not good at all!

I definitely can't wait for season 9!! I like Twelve & I hope he gets some descent companions. :D And maybe a few story arcs where he meets up with Ten & Eleven! :D

I never got into the o riginal run of Dr. Who. I came into with the 21st century return. I am no Rose fan. Or Nine. He was okay but the actor was kind of a douche about it all so...

I love 10 and 11 (not so much the Capaldi version out now). I loved Martha with one exception. She was TOO in love with the Doctor. I mean we finally had an intelligent woman on the show (especially compared to Rose) and all they could think to do with her was make her moon after him (I think they didn't know how to handle a character who didn't need constant saving).

Donna is pretty awesome. I liked Rory and Amy but honestly Clara is kinda meh.

Okay. I liked her in bits & pieces, but as a whole, Rose wasn't as good as time went on. I didn't like Nine at all.

I like the next three. Especially Capaldi. He's such a grouch! :D I don't mind Clara so much. Maybe cuz when I first "met" her, she died in that episode. XD

Really? I haven't seen that with Martha. That was Rose's thing. But then again, perhaps I need to see more Martha episodes. XD I LOVE that she's smart & can take care of herself, but she's not really grabbing me as a character. I wonder if that's cuz they don't know what to do with her.

Donna is AWESOME! Rory & Amy were fun too.

Awe... Thanks. Yeah, I've been here, reading stuff on my f-list, but I've also been quiet. XD Most of my time has been spent marathoning the Doctor. XD

And that's not his fault. Maybe they'll have better stories in season 9. The writing isn't always the greatest, but there's nothing we can do about that. XD

That's sooo sad. Poor Martha!

He's awesome!! (yeah?) If Hollywood ever decided to make a live action FMA movie, I can see him playing Roy. (and that's from someone who only knows the character from reading all my friends' ficcage.)

That's okay. Most writers don't know what to do with a strong female character. For all we know the Doctor's got some special pheromones that women can't resist. ;p Including the smart ones who can take care of themselves. :D

All I know is when I'm done watching the doctor, I'm going to look for Torchwood & watch that too. :D

Torchwood is darker (and a bit more uneven). It's far more openly gay. I'm not sure I saw it all. I should netflix it. When it originally aired I didn't get BBC America and I've seen the broadcasts last year but I'm not sure it was all shown (But it DID make the opening scene of my short story The Light of WInter that came out over Christmas).

Yeah? I know there was a big to-do about Capt. Jack kissing some guy, at least I think it was him. XD I get BBC America & I had tuned in over Christmas break & caught a few episodes of the Doctor. I'm glad I saw Ten & Eleven, cuz I didn't like Nine. Now I'm hooked. XD I'm hoping I'll like Torchwood too. :D

Jack kisses a lot of people. It was probably Ianto. Torchwood is different but I liked it.

I've been a fan of Doctor Who since 1982. I was really excited by New Who when it started but I haven't watched it beyond a few eps in a couple of years.

I liked Nine a lot, LOVED Ten and then they lost me at Eleven. He looks like a goof ball but he's very much not a nice person. Same thing happened for me with Seven though. I don't think I've ever seen the last season with Seven because I just didn't like him.

Capaldi is a great actor and Twelve has real potential but the writing got really sexist and stupid under Moffet and I'm having a hard time coming back to try Twelve out knowing he's still the show runner.

River seemed like a fun idea at first but it got old quick.

Martha is awesome!! She gets some really good stuff when she was in a few eps of Torchwood too. I liked Rose but not as much when they brought her back. Donna is a lot like Tegan from the old series only smarter. I love the idea that there's a Companion who isn't in love with the Doctor and doesn't take any nonsense from him.

Torchwood is VERY uneven and the finale, Children of Earth, made me yell at the TV. CoE has some really bad characterization and plot holes you could fly a star destroyer though. Seriously, if you plan to watch it I won't spoil it but once you do let me know and I can rant about it for days.

Gwen is super annoying. It's really obvious that she's the author's pet and can do no wrong even when she says and does really dreadful stuff. I was at a convention a few years ago in which the panel took a good 10-15 minute digression in which everyone ranted about her. One of the things I hated most about the end of the show was that so many interesting characters died and she made it through without getting eaten by something unpleasant.

The plus side though is you get lots of Captain Jack and you get Ianto, who is total love, and you get to see James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) kiss Captain Jack and generally be the ex-boyfriend from Hell.

Another plus is that there is really good Jack/Ianto fic out there that minimizes Gwen and ignores the stupid parts of CoE and you can enjoy it better if you've seen series 1 & 2.

WOW! :D I was too & then I watched a few episodes when it first came out. I really didn't like it. Then over Christmas break I started watching it again, they were having a marathon of it, & I liked it. Now I come home from work & watch it online. I'm trying to catch up & see the episodes I missed.

I didn't like Nine, but I did like Ten & I'm liking him a lot more too, going in order & watching specials I never saw. *nods* Yeah... I never saw that in Elven, but thinking back, since I've seen quite a few episodes with him, you could be right. I LOVE Twelve, he's kinda cranky & Capaldi is awesoem as him! I enjoyed the lil "sneak peek" of him in that one earlier episode, where he played this guy from Pompeii. :D

I'm not that crazy about the way Moffet's been handling things. The show is a bit uneven cuz of it, but not that bad as to be unwatchable.

Yes!! Until they started making her fall for the Doctor. T.T Then they took away some of that awesomeness. At least they redeemed themselves with Donna! :D I just saw the episodes again where she left, & having seem the whole season with her, it just made it all the more sad. I liked Rose too, but I think Donna's my fave.

I do want to watch it & I'll try to remember to nudge you for that rant. ;p
