Mermaid Parade

Earlier today I went to Coney Island to see the Mermaid Parade. It was pretty cool! We were on the boardwalk side, near the famous Coney Island Amusement park(s) by the Nathan's. Sadly we missed all the big floats, since they couldn't come down the boardwalk, but we saw the smaller ones & all the peeps dressed as merfolk & fish & salors & pirates! They ahd a few marching bands, the first one was all girls dressed like pirates & they played drums & it was just awesome!!

If you're into the bizarre & funky, there was plenty of that. At times it had a bit of a freak-show feel to it, which was cool. There was also lots of boobies in all shapes & sizes! :D There was only one woman who lost her shells/pasties/paint. XD So it had a Carnivale feel to it! :D There were drag queens & bearded ladies & peeps just letting loose & having fun! There was also a "dog-shark" & a cute lil "seadog"! :D And one sweet lil merbaby! <3 And bubbles!! :D

I wore my shell leggings & black tee & green summer sweater, I should have worn long sleeves as it was cold! I don't know how those merfolk didn't freeze to death! o.0 I also had a party lei around my head & wore another around my neck. :D Especially when it POURED! Luckily I waiting on line at Nathan's & the peeps next to me opened their umbrella. I had one that I eventually fished out of my backpack & opened. Before waiting to get some Nathan's fries, I spotted a carousel & rode it, just cuz I like them. I rode on the "mom" horse & she had a Hawaiian theme

Next year, my friend & I decided to make mermaid outfits & march in it, since anyone could march if they wanted.

FUnny, I was just sharing this with my merman group. I had never heard of it (in spite of it being around for 30+years). It sounds like so much fun!

Thanks! It really was a fun day! :D Sadly, I don't have any pix. T.T I didn't bring a camera cuz of the rain.
