Bernd scoured the racks at the local thrift store for something that could be turned into a fairy princess dress for his costume. He wanted something pink and girly, although Amber told him to be open to other colors; his heart wanted what his heart wanted. So he slowly made his way past the prom dresses that looked like hooker dresses. One in particular stood out as something he thought would look really hot on Amber, but when he took it off the rack and held it up, he realized there was no way she could stuff her chest into it. As he stared at the midriff barring turquoise sheath, he saw the only person he knew it that it would fit was Tino. Bernd thought about buying it for him as he knew Tino liked to play dress-up in the bedroom, but he doubted his brother would appreciate the gesture.

So he continued perusing the racks of prom dresses, before moving onto the wedding gowns. He found one he liked, but it was too big, another that might fit, he did not like. Bernd was about to give up when he spotted a bit of bright pink peeking out between a blue and a green bridesmaid dress. He walked over to it and pulled it off the rack. It was a pink confection of a dress and he knew it was the one. A quick look at the tag inside and Bernd nearly let out a whoop of joy. According to what Amber and Greta had told him, the dress was a size that would fit him. Bernd longed to take it over to the dressing room to try it on, but he figured if it did not fit when he got home, he could always donate it back to the store, since they did not take returns. As he walked up front to pay for it, Bernd was sure it would fit.

Armed with his purchase, Bernd left the thrift shop. He got into his car and drove home. He could not wait to try it on, so it was hard to drive normally when he wanted to rush. It was not long before he arrived at home. Parking his car, Bernd got out and hurried inside with the dress.

“Amber!! Come’re!! I found it!!” he called excitedly from the mudroom as he kicked off his shoes.

“Found what?” Amber said as she left the kitchen to see what all the excitement was about.

“I found my fairy princess costume dress at the thrift store! I only paid twenty bucks for it too!!” Bernd held up the bag.

“Let’s go in the kitchen and see,” Amber said calmly, despite wanting to see what he had found.

They two of them entered the kitchen. Bernd handed her the bag, and despite hating being cold, Bernd began stripping down to his underwear. Amber looked into the bag and pulled out a bright pink organza, silver embroidered, rhinestone studded bridesmaid dress. She looked at her boyfriend and back at the dress, and said, “That’s so you!” It was all she could do to keep herself from laughing.

Bernd’s eyes lit up. “You think so? Come on, come on!! Help me into it.”

Chuckling softly, Amber did as she was told. She had to admit it suited him more than she would have thought. It actually complimented his pale pink hair and instead of making him look washed out, it brought a bit of color to his cheeks.

“How do I look?” Bernd twirled around like a little girl playing dress-up.

“Fabulous.” Amber smiled. “I think Eddie would be impressed.”

“Eddie?”

“Yeah, Eddie. As in Izzard.”

“Oh…” Bernd’s look of surprise morphed into a grin. “I look that good, hunh?”

“Yup!” Amber kissed him. “Now hurry up and change, because it’s your turn to go get Fritz from school.”

Bernd whined wordlessly. “I was hoping we could have a lil fun.” He waggled his eyebrows at her.

“Sorry, but there’s not enough time. If you’re good, maybe we can play later after Fritz’s bedtime.” Amber gave him another kiss. “Now hurry!”

“Yes, ma’am!” Bernd turned around. “Uh, think you can give me some help?”

Amber shook her head and pulled down the zipper. While Bernd got dressed, Amber took the dress downstairs to her room and hung it up. She had the feeling they were going to make quite the entrance at Fritz’s Halloween party. As it was, they were “those parents,” but Amber found she did not care. Halloween was her holiday and she was going to celebrate it the way she liked. The fact that Bernd was turning into a convert, warmed her heart and she looked forward to “playing” with him later.
