When Amber saw the black skull and crossbones pasta in Spenser’s at the mall, she just had to get it. She also considered it a lucky find to get the last package of black gel food coloring in the cake section at the craft store. She thought it would be perfect to dye the cheese sauce to make “blackaroni and cheese.”
While the pasta was cooking, Amber took Bernd’s favorite macaroni and cheese recipe, the one she called “boring and bland” in her head, and doctored the normally white cheese sauce. She shook her head at his extreme pickiness when it came to food, only eating what they dubbed “white food.” It did not take long for the pasta to finish cooking. Amber drained it, and tossed it into the pot with the black cheese sauce, mixing it together. It looked like a big black mess, but Amber did not care. It was October and in twenty days it would be time for her favorite holiday; Halloween.
Amber scooped up a bite of the macaroni and cheese with her fork and ate it. It was still a bit bland, but that was the recipe. What made it good was the color; a rich, dark, dense black. She made happy little noises as she ate another bite.
“Hey, Amber,” Bernd said as he breezed into the kitchen. “Whatchya doin’?”
“Eating…” Amber ate another bite. “Mac and cheese.”
“It’s… black.” Bernd peered at macaroni and cheese on her plate.
“You need to expand your horizons, Bernd, and try it.” Amber held up her plate of “black food.”
He looked at her like she was trying to poison him. “It’s black…” he repeated.
“So? It’s good.” Amber scooped more up onto her fork and held it up. “You liked it all the other times I’ve made it.”
“Yeah?” Bernd made a face. “You sure?”
“Yeah… So try it. I promise not to tell anyone you ate black food, if that makes you feel any better.”
“I don’t know…” It was all he could do not to recoil in horror, and yet, a part of him was slightly intrigued by it. He wondered if it tasted as bad as it looked, even though Amber seemed to be enjoying it. Then again, she tended to like a lot of food he would never eat in a million years. Still, it was macaroni and cheese…
“Try it, you’ll like it…” She smiled at him. Amber took a deep breath as she moved her arms just far enough to distract him with her chest. She could see by his expression, he was considering it.
“Ummm….” Bernd’s gaze traveled from her ample bosom to the plateful of blackaroni and cheese, and back.
She licked her lips. “Mmmm…”
Bernd swallowed. Closing his eyes, he opened his mouth. He figured she’d owe him one if he tried it and the thought of playing with her breasts overrode any disgust he felt over trying the black food.
Amber quickly popped the forkful of macaroni and cheese into his mouth. She watched him chew and it was all she could do not to laugh at the expression on his face. She grinned as he opened his eyes.
“It’s good! Got any more?” Bernd made grabby hands at the plate she held.
Rolling her eyes, Amber set the dish down on the table and went to make up another plate. She turned, carrying the rest of it on a plate for Bernd, only to find him happily chowing down on the plate she intended to finish. Shaking her head at him, she sat down and ate the rest.
