Author’s note: Please note that James and Amber belong to Kat; I’m just borrowing them for this fic.
They went out in the field behind the house where Bernd liked to ride his horse. Armed with a bunch of bottle rockets and some Roman candles, along with some colored smoke bombs and sparklers, they made their own Fourth of July celebration. James stuck a bottle rocket in an empty beer bottle and lit it. It took off with a shrill whistle into the night sky. It was followed by more rockets and smoke bombs. Bernd lit some sparklers and handed one to Amber. James set off the first of five Roman candles. It may not have been as grand as the town’s celebration, but it was still fun.
