After John picked up the boys, Bobby got to wondering if what Dean had been going on about was true. It was a naked woman the kid saw and not a mermaid, right?

Bobby rowed out into the lake. After reassuring himself it was just a skinny-dipper, he spotted her. She was just as Dean described her: buxom, fish-tailed, and a flying pig tattoo on her left bicep. He blinked and she was gone with barely a splash. The mermaid surfaced next to the boat and smiled.

“I’m too old for your nonsense and the kid’s too young.”

She pouted and swam off, never to be seen again. Bobby shrugged and rowed back to shore.
