New Baby

Today I went & got a new baby. :D Actually, a sweet lil baby hand tamed parakeet that I named Cookie. He's pastel colored & reminds me of a sugar cookie. XD While he sang all the way home, he's sitting very quietly in his new home. I'm going to look for the budgie videos that always make Gilbee happy & play them for the two of them. :D Gilbee's actually pretty quiet too at the moment. XD

I'll post pix once Cookie's all settled so you can see what he looks like. :D

Thanks! I hope so too. He was sooo cute trying to fly & explore his cage.XD He wanted to get on the swing, but couldn't figure out how to get on it. XD I hope to have pix of him soon. :D

They're in different cages, so no worries there. Since Cookie's way smaller than Gilbee, I'll take them out at different times. Especially since 'keets can be a bit on the feisty side & for whatever reasons, Gilbee seems afraid of him. XD

keets can be strange which is probably Gilbee's reason. They are pretty but they are kinda weird or at least mine were

Aaah... Yeah? They really do come in some amazing colors! If I had room for another BIG cage like Gilbee's & some big bucks, I would have gotten a small flock. XD The store I got him from were kinda pricey. XD I'm hoping that's cuz they came from a breeder instead of a bird mill. I say that as they had 3 lil ones that were too young yet to go in the cage with the others. Gilbee came from a breeder who sells his birds to the store. Interestingly, they didn't have any 'tiels, but the did have Love Birds and a ton of Quaker parrots, both green & blue ones. And more canaries than I've ever seen in one place. XD

that's cool that it's from a breeder. I have to say I prefer keets to love birds and canaries. I have no issues with them but am not a fan of parrots (because of what the pet trade has done to accelerate their demise in the wild). Keets pose no problems.

I've fed lorakeets before. I think they're pretty...noisy though

Not a 100% sure, as I didn't ask, but it makes sense. Keets are cute & they come in a ton of colors! Although, if they want; they can do damage with a bite. My female keet, Jaki, who passed 3 years ago, had bitten my hard enough to draw blood. XD I can just imagine how hard a feisty lovebird could bite as they've got pretty big beaks for such a small bird. Tiels, on the other hand, are surprisingly gentle, even when they bite. Gilbee sometimes bites, but I think that's more like him getting annoyed like he would to another tiel, and it's a quick peck/bite. XD

I would think the breeds that have been around for awhile are from breeders, especially the fancy not found in nature colors, are captive bred. I knwo my Aunty & a cousin have sibling African Greys that came from a breeder. I do agree that the exotic pet trade has a bad habit of getting stock from the wild. Habitat loss too is bad and so is poaching as well as idiots who decide they have to have a "wild dingus," cuz no one else except an equally stupid celeb has one, sooo...

I've fed them too & they are pretty, but noisy.

(Silly Gilbee, he hears some birds on the TV & is trying to talk to them. XD Cookie is like "What?" XD)

Yeah? My Aunty's parrot is very quiet & my cousin's is even quieter. My Aunbty's will sit there and talk quietly to himself. When they're bored & want attention any parrot can get loud. Or if they suddenly decide they need to know you're okay they will call. Gilbee does that and if I call his name back a few times, he stops. XD

That's cool. My friend's parrot had three things it 'said', imitating the neighbors barky butt chihuahua, imitating a fire truck and imitating a bomb falling and going off.

Not gonna lie, I had recipes to roast that bird :-)

Thanks! *LAUGHS* I can see why you'd want to roast him. XD My Aunty's bird has a big vocabulary. The other night after she covered his cage, he told her to "please turn the TV down" in my late Uncle's voice. XD The funniest is when he sits there & says Beetlejuice 3 times & then cackles with this evil laugh. XD Also when they were selling their house, before moving to Florida, some guy was annoying him during an open house & when the guy moved on the bird called him an A-hole. XD

Okay now that's funny. I wouldn't have minded a bird like that. One of dad's friends had one that would say here kitty kitty and when the cat came it would shriek at it.

Jocko's a character. :D He's a funny bird. *LAUGHS* That's too funny! XD One time Jocko was getting hysterical & kept yelling at the dig to go lay down. My sister was getting annoyed in another room & came running to yell at the dog, & there was the dog fast asleep on the floor next to the cage. XD She'll feed the bird the odd cheese cube & other stuff the dig likes, so the dog would bother him. But not that time. XD

Thanks! He seems to be. :D For a hand tamed 'keet, he's awful skittish of my hand. XD But I'm hoping that he'll soon be a pirate bird like Gilbee! :D Dad said he'll take pix once I get him to sit on my hand & come out of the cage.
