Trudging through the snow from the stable to the house, Bernd looked up and saw something that made him stop. A couple of deer were foraging for food near the birdfeeders in the side yard. The sun was coming up and everything was bathed in a pale, rosy glow. He thought it was beautiful and he wished he had taken his phone with him so that he could take a picture to show everyone later.
Bernd stood there, shivering, while he watched the deer. They seemed unaware of him for the moment. Sadly, he needed to get inside. As he slowly took a step, one of the deer spotted him. They were gone in a flash, leaping over the hedgerow like it was not even there. Bernd sighed softly and continued on his way, making a mental note to put out more cracked corn for the deer. Opening the backdoor, he stepped into the welcoming warmth of the house. Stripping down to his underwear, he gathered his dirty clothes and brought them downstairs. Bernd threw them into the washer, and grabbing his towel, he took a quick shower. Afterwards, he crawled into bed with Amber and fell asleep, dreaming about the deer he had seen.
