Sesshomaru sat on a rock at the edge of the meadow and Rin ran around; chasing fireflies. The little girl wanted to catch one so badly, even he could taste it. Not even his manservant Jaken’s incessant admonishments could dampen her spirits. She laughed at her efforts, despite her overall failure, showing a tenacity of spirit that he strangely approved of.
“Look, Sesshomaru-sama! I caught one!!” Rin, her hands clasped together, ran over to him. “Wanna see?” She held her hands up.
The taiyoukai gave her a curt nod, and leaning towards her, he watched as she slowly opened her hands. A brief smile twitched at his lips upwards when he saw the insect crawling all over her palm. It flashed a few times, before flying away and twinkling like others of its kind amid Rin’s giggles. She smiled when he put his hand on her head. She giggled again and ran off to chase Jaken around the meadow. A faint smile softened his features as the ice surrounding his heart began to melt…
