Title: Halloween Presents
Author: kira
Table: Autumn: Images (Holiday Prompts)
Prompt: Image 21; owl rings
Fandom: Original
Characters: Amber, mention of her family
Word count:192
Rating: G
Summary: Amber loves her Halloween presents…
Author’s note: Special thanks to my beta Kat for pinking this. Please also note that this was also written for Holiday Prompts Autumn: Images table. Also Amber, Greta, Minky, and Maria belong to Kat.
Amber hugged the thick, russet sweater close. On her hand, she wore the three owl rings Bernd and the kids had gotten her for Halloween. She chuckled softly and shook her head. Somehow, her silly husband had turned her favorite holiday into a cross between Yule’s advent and her birthday. Everyone counted the days down from September first until October thirtieth, exchanging small gifts and candy until “the big day.” On Halloween, as well as Bernd’s new favorite holiday of “Sweater Weather Day,” she was given a bigger gift, like the owl rings she wore on her left hand. According to the kids, the horned owl was Fritz, the barn owl was “Vati” because he was also “white” like him, and the spotted owl was Maria. Not only did Bernd manage to find three different owl rings, but they perfectly matched the sweater he had given her. The fact that her sweater also matched Greta’s and Minky’s, she was sure was just a coincidence. Finding one that complimented her turquoise hair, Amber was sure was some sort of miracle. The books and selection of exotic teas she had received were like gravy.
