Didi stood there, looking at the painting his husband just finished hanging in the gallery, and sighed. It was Modern Art, something he did not understand, and he inwardly groaned at the expectant look on his beloved’s face. He looked at Tino and opened his mouth, but the words refused to form in his brain, let alone come out.

Tino smiled. “I call it ‘Fires of Hell’.”

It’s Hell alright; I can’t make sense of it… Didi miserably thought. He wondered whatever happened to the beautiful landscapes and portraits Tino normally painted. This… this was a swirling mass of red on black with hints of pinky-grey. “It’s…” he started to say.

Mistaking his husband’s hesitation for dislike, Tino’s bright expression darkened. “You hate it!”

“No! No! No! I don’t hate it…” Didi began. He licked his lips and said softly, “It’s not what you usually paint…” He frowned.

“Oh…” Tino pouted.

“I really love your portraits, the one you did of Bernd is awesome and so is that little nude you did of Amber for his birthday, and I also love the one of the meadow we have hanging in the living room.” Didi put an arm around his husband’s shoulders. He nuzzled Tino’s cheek.

“But you hate this!” Tino’s pout became an angry scowl. He poured his heart and soul into his paintings and the thought of his husband hating his work upset him.

“Actually, I don’t. It’s just that I don’t get Modern Art.” Didi sighed. “I never did and I never will, no matter how many times you and Amber try to explain it to me.” But I do love how animated you get whenever we’re at the museum, or a new piece is hung in the gallery at work and you tell me all about it…

“Oh…” Tino gave his husband a sidelong glance. “And it’s supposed to be more Abstract Expressionism than Abstract, but Modern Art is a good word for it.”

Didi chuckled. “Are you giving me an art history lesson again?” He was relieved their “almost fight” was over before it began.

Tino giggled. “And what if I am?” He smiled impishly at Didi. He hated fighting with him, but art was a passion of his. So was Didi when he thought about it. Tino sighed. He felt like the man who loved his wife as much as he loved his mistress and wished the two would get along.

“Then teach me,” Didi said softly as he gathered Tino in his arms.

“Okay…” Tino tilted his face upwards as he closed his eyes. He wrapped his arms around his husband, holding him close as he melted into Didi’s loving embrace.

Didi leaned in, kissing him long and hard. They briefly came up for air, before Tino kissed him back, just as deeply. Breaking the kiss, Didi said, “A pity we’re at the gallery.”

“Well, we could close up and go home.”

“We could…” Didi pretended to think it over. He would have loved to have made love to Tino right there on the gallery floor, but he did not think the owners would like it very much. Passers-by were a different story. He had the feeling half would be shocked and outraged, while the other half would stand in front the gallery’s window and eagerly watch the “performance art.” His cheeks heated up over the thought of such a very public display of affection. He mentally shook his head as he wondered what had just gotten into him.

“Come on, let’s go. I need some inspiration for my next painting,” Tino purred. Realizing what his husband was thinking, he was surprised and delighted by this unexpected side to him as Didi was normally very reserved.

Didi took a step back and frowned. “Yeah?”

“Yeah! I’m going to call it ‘The Passion of Didi’.” Tino grinned.”Now, let’s go home and make love like there’s no tomorrow!”

Didi did not need to be told twice. “I’ll go get the car and you lock up,” he said as visions of what he wanted to do to his beloved danced in his head. He kissed Tino’s cheek and grabbed his coat, fishing his car keys out of his pocket.

“Yes, sir!” Tino gave him a mock salute. He went to get his coat from the gallery’s office, turning lights off as he returned. By the time he had finished locking up; Didi was waiting out front for him. He hopped in the car and they sped off, eager to get home for a night of passion between the sheets.
