Title: Annoying Big Brothers and Graphic Novels
Participant: kira
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairings: Sam, Dean
Disclaimer: Don’t own it, wish I did!
Summary/Teaser: Sam tries to get lost in his graphic novel, unfortunately, Dean interrupts him…
Rating: PG for Dean’s potty mouth
Notes: This is unbetaed, so any mistakes therein are my own. Also, the graphic novel Sam is trying to read is based on the light novel series and anime “Puella Magi Madoka Magica.”

“Still reading comic books, Sammy?” Dean said as he plucked the book from his brother’s hands. “You’re such a geek!” he teased.

“Give it back, Dean!” Sam frowned and reached for his book. “And it’s not a comic book, it’s a graphic novel.”

“Graphic, hunh? So there’s uh…” Dean waggled his eyebrows, “In it?” He thumbed through the book. “Sammy, I think they gypped you. There’s no sex here, which is probably a good thing as this is full of little girls. Although, this one’s got quite a rack.” Dean held up the book and pointed to one of the characters. “I can see why they called her Mami,” he smirked.

Sam heaved a long suffering sigh. He had been through this before with his brother the last time they had a free moment on the way home from a hunt and they stopped at a book store. “It’s a magical girl series, so there’s supposed to be little girls in it.” He reached for the book, but Dean held it just out of his grasp. “And they’re not little, little girls, they’re supposed to be middle school girls, so teens.”
“Oh…”

“And kids that old apparently can live on their own in Japan, which is where that series comes from. That’s why they don’t have ‘American names’.”

“Oh… Besides, I’m familiar with names like Madoka and Homura.” Dean continued to thumb through the book.

“I didn’t know Busty Asian Beauties was a graphic novel.”

Dean looked at his brother and grinned. “It’s not a graphic novel, Sammy, but it is graphic.” He winked.

Sam rolled his eyes.

Dean read a couple of pages. “This is some weird shit, Sammy…” he murmured. “Wait! They’re witches?”

Sam face palmed. He hated it whenever his brother was being deliberately obtuse. “No, they’re magical girls, who end up as witches. You’d know that if you started from the beginning.”

“And that’s bad…?” Dean flipped a few more pages. “Holy shit, Sammy!”

“Don’t tell me, Dean!”

“But it’s so sad!”

“I don’t want to know, Dean,” Sam said in a tone that brooked no argument. “I’d like to read it for myself.”

Dean sniffled. “You’ll need some Kleenex.” He handed the book back to his brother. “How do you geeky types deal with stuff like that? They were little girls, Sammy!”

Sam heaved a long suffering sigh. “The same way I deal with real monsters and what happens when we encounter them, Dean.” He marked his place. “At least I know this just a story and…” He shrugged.

Dean nodded. “Carry on then with your uh, ungraphic graphic novel.”

“Will do.” Sam reached for the book. Opening it, he started reading it again. The story may have been cutesy at first glance, but it was dark at its heart. As he read on, Sam began to see an undercurrent of hope, much like the life of a hunter. Sure it was dark and dangerous, but there was always the hope that things will get better in the end. To keep that hope alive, Sam liked to read the odd graphic novel or two. He also liked to watch anime, especially those series where the heroes defeated a bunch of youkai…
