Today was another fun nature day. I went for a hike with Dad & saw some pretty yellow birds I've never seen before which were 2 kinds of warblers, some pretty cool slime mold on a rotting log, some other birds I've seen at home & a mother deer & her nearly grown fawn! :D (It was almost as big as her, plus all its spots were long gone.)

Anyways, this afternoon I went outside to fill up the bird feeders & I also grabbed the hummingbird feeders. I was surprised to see the one was empty, while a bit upset to see some mold growing in the other one. I washed them both out with vinegar, rinsed well, & made more hummingbird juice to fill them up with. I then went about my afternoon, until I happened to walk into the kitchen & Dad told me he needed some help with a water droplet photography project. So in between shots, I walked over to window, looked out & nearly died! I know exactly why the one feeder was empty!

So much for the water droplets, eh? Seriously, I was sooo HAPPY to see this sweet lil jewel, I nearly cried! XD We have 2 feeders & Dad had ordered 2 more & 2 shepherd's crook to hang them from, that we hadn't gotten around to putting up. We also got some flowers to attract some Hummingbirds, which haven't come in yet. (we got them from the wildlife rescue center's fund raiser & hopefully they're be here soon) Anyways, that lil jewel, is a female ruby throated hummingbird! I hope she comes back tomorrow!! :D

My mom loves hummingbirds and has been waiting for them to come back for the year. I saw one around her car one day and she finally saw one flirting around, so she had Dad hunt down the feeders. Now we just need to get the nectar for them!

Awe... I'm glad you & Mom got to see some!! :D

Don't buy nectar; the red stuff is bad for them. You can feed them what I make for them. It's 1 part granulated sugar to 4 parts water. I use warmish tap water, stir in the sugar until it's gone & fill up your feeders. :D And they like it! :D

*LAUGHS* I'm sorry, I'm just thinking about how we got our hummie loving flowers up now & another feeder out there, but no sign of any more hummies! XD I think that lil jewel of mine was just passing through & NOT bringing any of her friends with, or thinking of staying. XD

I'm hoping you'll have better luck than we do! *huggles*

It was being a little tease! Hanging out like that and then disappearing without bringing any of its friends... Rude little hummer!

Thanks! *huggles* I hope you get some hummers coming in!

Here's hoping. We stopped feeding them when the feeders kept getting moldy fast and also attracting wasps. sigh. Instead we planted a bunch of their favorite flowers (since we have the land) I get buzzed by them sometimes

Thanks! I haven't seen her yet, but the day's still young. :D I think that feeder needs to be moved closer to to the trees, so it's bit more shaded. Now that I know, someone's visited them, I'll make sure to make fresh sugar water everyday for them. I found out what flowers they like & we ordered some from the nature rescue center & they should hopefully come in this week. That's sooo cool! I find that lil birds like chickadees seem to be braver than others. We once had a chickadee sit on the shepherd's crook while filled them up. It was totally unafraid of us compared to other birds that woudl wait until we left, before coming back to the feeders! XD

If she's draining your feeder, she might have a nest nearby! <3 <3

We have had three hummingbirds - a female and two males - who have shown up for the past two summers. We're pretty sure the female is raising a family in the gumball tree. Time to put out some hummingbird syrup because my cousin's seen them at her house, about three miles from our place.

Nice!! I didn't see my lil jewel today, so it's possible she was just passing through & stopped for a quick dinner & a rest. Our new feeders came & we added one to the mix & the flowers we ordered are supposed to be here this week too, so hopefully the next passerby will decide to stay! :D

Good luck with your lil family!! :D

We've been visited lately by some fledglings. We've had the usual baby cardinals & sparrows. The Cardinals seem older as they don't beg for food. The sparrows are lil beggers!! XD The baby bunnies are still here too & so is Baby Bunny, who I think is the babies' mom. :D We also have some juvenile squirrels, who visit with the others & are learning to go dumpster diving. T.T (They've chewed holes in the garbage can lids & sometimes knock the cans over & strew garbage all over the yard. XD

I hope we get our hummingbirds back this year. I would love to put in a water fixture for them and the other birds but we don't really have the money at this point.

We have sparrows, too. They beg forever. The cardinal family hasn't moved on - we have a family and their kids who are still right here.

I try to keep the squirrels out of my yard - they go after my tomatoes and I don't like sharing.

That would be awesome & I hope they come back to you again! I was thinking of getting a bird bath & solar fountain too! That's the hard part, everything is sooo much money that could be better spent on food.

*nods* They're too cute though. I think these are the ones that nest year after year in the front soffit. During the winter we tend to get a ton of cardinals as I think we're like one of the few that feeds the birds. Awe... that's sweet! :D We also get doves & they're very noisy. XD We also have a pair of jays that like to visit the feeder for a free handout & there's a mockingbird that's taken to sitting on the pole pig & singing his heart out. :D

Aaaah... I have tomato seedlings that I need to plant when they get a bit bigger & actually look like something. XD I hope our squirrels will leave them alone when I do get around to planting them. XD
