I had a wonderful time hiking around Bar Harbor Maine. We took the ferry from Long Island to Connecticut & from there drove to Portland Maine. We get there to discover half the area has no power! XD Unfortunately, that included our hotel, so we drove to the old part of town & had dinner, come back still no power, so we went to a park with a lighthouse to take pix.We came back to darkness, but luckily, the power came back on 15 minutes later, which was long enough to shower & get into bed, before going out again! XD

Next day we headed out to Bar Harbor. It's really quaint & a very dog friendly place. I think I saw more dogs there than the time I went to a shelter to look for a small dog to adopt (sadly, all they had were big dogs & I prefer a small dog). So we wandered around & drove around Acadia National Park & we also walked around town. The next day we walked to the sand bar that appears during low tide & walked across to the island. I fell on the rocks as the beach/sand bar was sandy/rocky & I skinned my knees, bruised them good & I'm waiting for the bruise that's brewing on my upper calf to appear. XD Anyways 2 peeps stop to see if I'm okay & they helped me up. The really weird part was they said they were a doctor & a nurse & asked me a bunch of questions & if I thought I broke something. XD I was okay, just sore & I briefly sat on a log, got myself together & hiked up the hill to see the beautiful vista of Bar Harbor (which is also an island)& our hotel. More wandering around town & lighthouse viewing, I hurt, but Advil took away most of it. The next day, we went back to Acadia National Park & did the Jordon Pond hike. It was like 4 miles or so, since there was a detour into the woods as they weren't finished fixing the wooden path. Anyways it was awesome & scary cuz there was some rock climbing (you had to climb over some boulders to get around them as there was no other way through). Again Advil was my friend. :D We also went back to the lighthouse, but there wasn't available parking so I had to move the car about a mile away. (I did my biggest walk/hike of the trip at nearly 9 miles, by the time I was finished with all my traveling on foot.) Then back to the room. That night or the following one, I forget, we did some night sky shots as there's no real light pollution & we caught a program on the beach about the night sky, which was interesting.

The last day, we got up early, bundled up, & drove back to ANP & up Cadillac Mountain to watch/take pix of the sunrise, which was awesome, Then we came back to the hotel, loaded up the Impala (we had rented for the trip) & drove back to Conn. for the ferry & from there home. :D

Oddly enough, the only wildlife I saw was some seagulls, cormorants, a brown snake of some sort, a baby ring necked snake (some local also saw it & told me what it was), and a bunch of chippies (chipmunks). :D

I also ate lobster every night for dinner. :D It was YUMMY!! :D

Work was disorganized, but, I get to look after the babies (kindergartners) and they're cute & some are a lil sassy, but what can you do? XD Anyways we had one shy, sweet lil Asian boy wet himself. He said he ahd dry clothes, so I told him to grab his backpack & let's go to the bathroom, so you can change. Apparently, he not only had the wrong backpack, but nothing to change into & he comes out half naked. I was like get back in there & get dressed! XD I'm trying to text my supervisor & got the group text instead cuz I totally freaked. (I got a morning co-worker going "WHAT?!!" as I had texted, "He came out with no pants on!!" XD So the kid goes inside after I told him he can't play outside like that as his tushy would get cold & he comes back out with just his wet underwear on. I'm like mentally face-palming, but I told him he needed his pants on and he had to do himself. I finally get my supervee, & she calls his mom to let her know what happened. I felt bad as it looked like they walked there, so he's be walking back all wet. Mom did wrap in in a big sweater to cover him & she said she'd send him something to wear in case it happened again. XD And if that wasn't enough fun this afternoon, we had "lost" a kid. It was crazy going to get them & we had no teachers on the attendance sheet, but apparently, they didn't send someone out that we thought should have been there. The bad part was my supervee, didn't notice until after 5:00 that he was missing. XD Had we done 2nd attendance & counted like we u7sed to, they could have located this kid on the bus & brought them back. They're babies & it's happened before that someone goes on the bus by mistake cuz they thought they were supposed to go home that day. XD

Lastly, I frigged up my ankle somehow. I think I have a stress fracture in it as it's slightly swollen & very purple. Now if I had twisted it when I fell, I could understand the bruising, but I didn't & it aches a lot & feels weird. Guess who's calling the doctor tomorrow when I get home, after my morning shift. XD

I know I have comments to reply to, but until I get back to getting up with the sun & going to work & NOT crashing & burning when I have to beg off for a bit. Also it's kinda hard to sit at my compy & prop up my ankle, which is really starting to hurt now that I'm off it. T.T I swear I will reply!

Your trip sounds amazing! I love climbing stuff so I'd be thrilled to clamber over boulders.

Aww, that poor little boy. :(

Hope you figure out what's going on with your ankle/foot.

Thanks, it was! :D Yeah? It was kinda scary to me as some rock shifted when you stepped on them & I was afraid of falling & really hurting myself. XD

Yeah :( He's such a sweetheart! :D

Thanks! I have an appointment on Thursday at 9:45.

I would love to see Bar Harbor. Sorry you fell and sorrier about the ankle. You could have cracked it in the fall and then being up on it at work did it in. Definitely go see the doc.

Ugh to the work stuff. I can't imagine dealing with kindergarteners

I think you would love it as it's sooo beautiful! :D Thanks! Yeah? Something's definitely not right as it burns when I'm off it. I'm definitely looking into it as I have an appointment on Thursday morning. If the fall didn't hurt it, then all the walking did. XD

Actually, the worst part about work so far is getting up before 6. I can deal with lil ones & disorganization; it's brain dead tiredness that kills me. XD

I love Maine but have never been to Bar Harbor. Good luck with the appt.

Ugh I hear that. I'm lucky I still only have to get up at 8

Thanks! Maine is awesome! If you ever get the chance, definitely do Bar Harbor! It's beautifully quaint! :D

You are one LUCKY Duck!! I'd LOVE to wake up at 8 again! :D Things are getting betterish, my only complaint is I'm in charge of the kindergartners & they get picked up early, so I'm told to leave once they're all gone, which means I'm losing money as my work week is now shorter & I also missed a couple of Zoom meetings so I lost out on that money too. My check is going to be pitiful. T.T

Aaah... You should definitely go one day! Thanks! Sure enough, no referral waiting for me, but at least they were able to get a hold of the docs & get one. (I see whoever's free in the practice)and as I said elsewhere it's a bone cyst & a the beginnings of arthritis in it. XD The boot & trying to stay off it as much as I can really helps! I'm planning on going back on Monday as I really can't afford to be out. XD If I ahve to boot it at night until bed time, I will. (Apparently, I can't work in a boot, but other people can. >_>)

Um what is their idea about some can wear a boot and others can't

The rules change with the wind.I also think if the supervisor feels it's an issue, & they make a stink about it, it can't be done. It's like the rules for getting a late night, first it was you have to stay with your group & if they leave early, good bye to you. Now, it's okay, for them to have a chance to stay late. XD Seriously, I can't see people wanting to stay in a job where they're only working an hour or two as they're not making money & it's not worth the time & effort. And the stupid groups look good on paper, but when you think about it, you've got cross contamination as ALL the kindergartners are together, plus you've got 1st & 2nd together, & 3rd & 4th together. So how is that preventing the spread of covid? XD And not only that, I have different people working with me during the week. XD So one person working in a boot in one school & another not being able to makes just as much sense... which is NOT making any sense. XD

Yeah... Although I don't want to step on people's toes & make things worse. The woman in charge of the program can be ki8nda bitchy. This whole opening schools was a bad idea. I happened to be in 2 different schools today & both schools had a student test positive for Covid. I have no idea if I cam in contact with said student, well in the one school, but who knows if any of the kids in the other school are brewing up a case & spreading germs? Anyways, schools are open tomorrow(supposedly cleaned tonight) & I'm wondering why they're not closed like they did in March when a teacher became ill with it. Do remote learning like they did before. XD

Date: 2020-10-07 09:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
unfortunately the remote learning puts a burden on parents who have to work because then they have to be home but it might come to that again

From: [identity profile] kiramaru7.livejournal.com
That's the bad part, but if it keeps everyone safe and well, I guess they'll have to live with it. (I think 7th through high school here has remote learning on Fridays.) It's a difficult time with no easy solution to the problem of work & school aged kids. I just want people to be safe & well.

I'm sorry this is so late! My wifi has been acting up for the past five or six days (it feels like months!) AND a cell tower went down, so things have just been >.<

Anyway! I'm really glad you had such a good time on your trip. My mom would be really jealous if she knew about the lighthouse because she loves those things. I'm sorry to hear about your fall, though! :( Lobster for dinner every night sounds amazing!

Don't worry about it! I have a TON of replies to get through so I'm sure I have ones even later! XD Between work starting up again, wonky 'net for me too, going away & coming back, & hurting myself, I'm just too tired to think & reply myself. So NO worries! *huggles* Things happen, some you can control, others you can't.

Thanks! Yeah? XD There's a couple of them here too. XD That was not fun & I tried to duck & roll when it was happening & probably made it worse (walking around & I mean WALKING also didn't help)as my right leg HURT at night, but I'd get up & walk around then next day. We went hiking around this pond, that I think is normally around 3 1/2 miles around it & it was closer to 4 as there was a detour into the woods. There's a restaurant at one end & we walked up to it to use the facilities ;D which added to the trip as we had to walk back down. At one point there were boulders to climb over... so yeah, it's probably amazing I never injured myself worse than I did. XD

OMG! The lobster was AMAZING as it was sooo fresh from the sea! :D

*huggles lots* You've got lots of stuff to deal with, so I'm sure every is perfectly fine waiting for replies!

You're welcome. Yeah. XD I can definitely see how all of that walking would NOT be good for it! I'm glad you were able to get up and walk around, but I'm really glad you didn't hurt it even more by doing all of said walking around!

Now I'm just jealous. XD

*even more HUGGLES & GLOMPS* Yup! XD

(My school has a Covid case & no one knows if the kid's in childcare or not, but still, kids could have come in contact with the Covid one. T.T It's scary!)

*TONS AND TONS AND TOOOOOONS OF HUGGLES AND GLOMPS!* XD

<3

(Oh, gosh, that really is scary! That's why I think it's so ridiculous that they've opened up schools. There have been some in the surrounding areas that have had to close down again because of outbreaks. Have they figured out if the kid was in childcare? How is everyone else? How are YOU?)

*adds some glitter & confetti*

<3

(I know, right? I agree! More & more kids are getting sick & it's not fair to put the staff through that as well as other students. I get that peeps need to work, but it feels like the second wave is coming. Same here! If they have, they're not saying. >.> I'm okay. I'm filling in in another school where someone was exposed to COVID, so they're quarantining. How you doing? *huggles*)

Oh, shiny!

<3

(I'm pretty sure the schools out here have basically noped out of things and are still doing at home learning. I think the teachers are in the classrooms, but the kids are at home. I really feel like absolutely NO consideration was given to people's health when it was decided that the kids would go back to school. Oh, sure, those in charge will swear that's not the case, that they considered everything carefully, but really? If they did actually think about it, it's clear they decided that the health of the students and staff aren't nearly as important as they pretend. I'm really glad you're okay! <3 Stay safe and healthy! I'm doing good. We all stay at home except for mail and grocery runs and I'm fairly sure that the Bats are more spoiled than ever.)

Yup! *adds more glitter*

<3

I don't think so. With staff, yes, but kids no. There was something on the news last week about moms sending COVID sick kids to school because they don't want the schools to close. Definitely no consideration was given (and non where my job is concerned. I was cut 3 shifts, yet newer peeps weren't & we all make the same salary and if they're lower, it's not by much, so not really fair there). I get that parents need to work, but a lot can be done at home. The jobs that really can't, like health care can afford a babysitter, & others like restaurant staff, which can't, are mostly closed. Europe is having a second wave;we need to worry about that here & take action to prevent it, if possible.

Thanks! You too!! I'm glad everyone is safe!! *huggles*

Sorry for such a late reply. XD Between being tired from work; I literally come home after the morning shift & sleep until 1-ish, make lunch & go back to work & on the days I'm awake, I've been writing stuff for a bingo. I wrote 25 fics in the second half of October. XD Add some laziness & a desire to just be alone, my Kindergartners are EXHAUSTING & NEEDY, I just want to veg out. XD
