Liza put the finishing touches on the sugar cookies she was decorating for her Halloween party. Her friend Elsa had given her a set of unusual cookie cutters for her birthday and she had fun trying them out. There were two dozen colorful sugar skulls, another two dozen Easter eggs that she had turned into serial killer hockey masks, and the two dozen unicorns that she was busy turning into magical jack-o-lanterns. She thought they would be a nice touch as pumpkins were pumpkins and unicorns were, well, unicorns.
The last cookie done, she set the piping bag full of black frosting aside and let them sit so the frosting would harden a bit, while she got out a platter to put the cookies on. A good cook and a fantastic baker, Liza loved entertaining, especially when there was a holiday attached.
She bustled about the kitchen, getting everything ready. Besides the cookies, she had a brain-shaped Jell-O mold, witches’ brew punch, grave dirt pudding, pizza skulls, mummy hot dogs, and toxic waste mac and cheese. It was going to be a fun party and she could not wait for everyone to get there.
Setting everything up in the dining room on the buffet, Liza had just enough time to get into her witch’s costume, before her guests started arriving. “Happy Halloween!” she cried as she turned on her laptop. Liza had spent weeks gathering the best songs of the spooky season, and with a click of her mouse, “Werewolves of London” began to play, officially starting her party. By the time “Monster Mash” was playing her friends were thoroughly enjoying themselves. At the end of the night, a good time was had by all.
