Bernd sat at his computer, browsing Pinterest. He was looking for ideas on places to go and things to do in the fall. He wanted to surprise Amber with a special weekend together. Maybe they could take long walks down a country road or stay at that inn that his brother Didi and his husband Tino love. Or maybe they could stay home and bake a pie… Bernd quashed that thought as the sound of his brother’s and Amber’s laughter rang in his head.
He searched a few more boards. There was pumpkin picking, candle making, antiquing… the possibilities were endless. What would Amber like? There was that new coffee shop in town she was always going on about, unfortunately, she was planning on going with her girlfriends, so that was a no-go. He thought about the inn and the beautiful grounds around it. Tino said they had strung fairy lights in the trees, giving the place a magical vibe. He also said the cinnamon roll cupcakes were to die for, which was saying something as Tino preferred his husband’s baking to anything else. Didi was an excellent baker, thanks to an innate knack for it and a summer spent working in the local bakery.
Bernd reached for his hot chocolate and drank some. He set the mug down and leaned back in his chair and thought. Maybe he should take the kids over to visit their uncles James and Cesare and let Amber have some “me time.” He pictured her curled up on the old sofa in the den with a good book, a comfy afghan, and a cup of tea. A morning or afternoon of that, he was sure would be more appreciated, along with helping her decorate the place for Halloween. Bernd typed Halloween ideas in the search bar and was shown a few boards, which he opened in new tabs. Finishing his cocoa, he decided to look at those with Amber after dinner that night.
