Nor'easter fun!

Last night they predicted a storm would hit today. It came out of the north east, which is where it gets its name -nor'easter- from. It started out kinda half-assed, a bit of flurries here & there. I checked the school's site & we got a snow day today(although, they're not sure about tomorrow) YAY!! :D I'll have to keep checking & will get a call from the school as well if it's closed, like I did yesterday & got the call last night. Boo! for not getting paid, but better than trying & failing to get to work. It's BAD when the governor declares a state of emergency for the entire state, except for the 2 counties near the Great Lakes. Yes, I live in New York. The City has practically shut down. Major highways on the Island are supposed to be closed as well as major routes on the mainland.
Anyways, I ran out of bird seed & I felt sooo bad for the poor lil things struggling in the snow. I was supposed to go and get more on Saturday, but it was bitterly cold & Dad was like "you're not going anywhere as your car will get stuck & I'm not coming to get you." So I was hoping to get something yesterday, but they had none at the store we went to & Lowe's would have been a zoo, with peeps stocking up on things needed for the coming storm. So this morning when I saw around 50 doves (which is normal for us, we get anywhere from a couple to a HUGE flock) sitting in the trees and looking for food under the empty feeders I felt sooo sad & knew I had to do something. Remembering an article I read in an Audubon newsletter, I made them peanut butter sandwiches. (The article said you can make stale bread healthier for the birds by putting peanut butter on it.) So I took the baguette we bought that Dad said was stale, slathered on the peanut butter, & did the same for 6 slices of the bread I got to eat. I took it outside and broke it up as best I could into little pieces & the birds, especially the sparrows & juncos, went nuts over it. Within a half hour it was gone (and you also could not see my tracks to the feeders, that's how hard it was snowing). I threw out an old roll, although I didn't fuss with the peanut butter, & I also took the cansiter of old fashioned oats & sprinkled it out the window for them, also with a suet cake I found in the fridge. Don't know how good the suet is, as it's been in the fridge for a while (I need to get new suet cages as the squirrels broke them), but that sank in the snow & was quickly covered fresh powder. XD At least they all got to put something in their lil bellies. We also had the neighborhood Cooper's hawk catch something. I happened to look out the window & wondered where all the birds went... well, one went into the hawk's belly. XD They're all back now, sheltering in the trees.
And to give you an idea about how much snow we've gotten so far, I'm 5'2" and I went out to take the garbage out. I moved the cans up front before the storm yesterday & I had a hard time walking over to them! The snow is up to my knees, which I'm guessing is about 15, 16 inches. To be fair part of that is a snow drift, which always happens between the houses (it tends to move to us & leave the neighbor alone XD), but it was also that high going down the stairs & walking on the walk & across the driveway to get to where I put the cans. So it's A LOT. ;D We heard the snow ploughs go by, but the road looks like it's never been ploughed. XD
So I made a cake to celebrate the snow as there's only so much Star Trek Next Generation I can watch or play on my compy. XD
EDIT: I just looked out the window & it's still snowing, but then again they said it was supposed to snow all day into tomorrow. XD
EDIT 2: Remote learning tomorrow, so no work for me. XD
