Bernd picked up a diary from when he was young. He opened it and thumbed through a few pages. Judging by the dates, Bernd saw he had to be nine years old.

There were a few scattered photographs taped in amongst his entries. He chuckled softly to himself, thinking they were taken by Amber, until he realized she was a little older when Vati gave her a camera. He frowned, wondering who took them, until it hit him. Denis had taken them with Onkel Luigi’s old Polaroid. There was a picture of his younger brother Didi riding Amber’s dog Duke like a horse, another of himself and Julio mugging for the camera. Bernd smiled at the memories. One of his favorite pictures was of James dressed like a ghost. He had an old bedsheet tossed over his head with two eye holes cut out. He looked very spooky standing in the backyard, lit only by the light of the backdoor light. Well, his nine year old self thought James looked spooky; his older self found the picture funny, as the sheet was too short for James, who was going through a growth spurt at the time.

He shut the diary and put it back on the shelf. Bernd had tons of them as he liked to chronicle his life and did so from about six or seven years old until the present. Good times, bad times, they were all there, set down in his messy handwriting, which had not improved with age. He randomly picked another one, before sitting down to read the inner most thoughts of his younger self.

I love the idea of time-traveling through one's old diaries - this one was very wry and gentle, like evening in those old photos. I loved it!

I never kept a diary or a journal, so Bernd does it for me. XD Although, I think I would die of embarrassment, reading what my younger self thought was so important. XD Thanks! :D
