Title: Ginger
Prompt: Animal
Fandom: none
Art: Photography/shot with an Apple 10 iPhone
Rating: G
Summary: Kira might be a Disney princess… Seriously, this is Ginger, my “pet” wild bunny.
Author’s Note: For the past three or four years, we have had an Eastern Cottontail that I call Ginger, living in our backyard. I started talking to her out the kitchen window and from there whenever I saw her outside whenever I was also outside, so she’s used to the sound of my voice. She got to be pretty trusting of us, enough to come out of hiding to graze several feet away from us, while we were barbequing. She’s also come up to me, while maintaining a healthy 2 foot away distance, when I was filling the bird feeders as she likes to eat the seeds I throw on the ground for the doves. I think she was trying to get me to hurry up and put out some seed. She’s also flopped down in front of me, which according to Dizzojay, who has a pair of bunnies named Nutmeg and Juniper, whenever bunnies flop, it means they really trust you. (YAY!) She also had a baby this summer, that we only saw when she was weaning it. It was like she called it out to show us, as we never saw the baby again after that, but I like to think Sugar (what I call it) is one the bunnies on my block. I believe she had them in the corner of the yard near the back gate. We spent an afternoon watching her leap over the vegetation there (I let it grow wild there) several times. Another bunny had shown up during all that and whether it’s Sugar’s daddy, or a random rabbit is anyone’s guess.
