Mary gazed lovingly at the small bundle in her arms. He newborn son, who she and John had named Dean, looked myopically up at her as she cooed at him. He fussed, nuzzling her breast. “Sssh, Baby, Daddy’s coming with your bottle.” Mary gently rocked him.
“Thanks…” Mary smiled at John and fed Dean the bottle. Her newborn suckled hungrily and her surging hormones had her eyes welling up with tears. She cuddled Dean and sang softly to him, vowing to protect him from “the things that go bump in the night,” as he slowly fell asleep in her arms.
